How To Make Amazon Alexa Your Default Assistant On Android Phones

If you are more involved in Amazon’s ecosystem than in Google, you can now replace the Google Assistant with Alexa as the default virtual assistant on your Android phone. It will be similar to what Microsoft offered with Cortana app, last year. The feature lets you summon Alexa, instead of built-in Google Assistant, by long pressing the home button.

How to Replace Google Assistant With Alexa On Your Android Phone

Step 1: Download and install the Amazon Alexa app from the Google Play store.

Step 2: Set-up the app by logging in your Amazon credentials.

Step 3: Now, head over to phone’s Settings> Open Apps > tap on the three dots icon on the top-right corner and select Configure apps/Default Apps.

Depending on the ROM you are using, you can directly search for Assist apps or default apps in the settings search.

Step 4: A new window will open with multiple options, select Assist & Invoice Input> Assist App. A small pop-up will then ask you to Choose Assist App.

Step 5: Once you set Alexa as default assistant, long-press the hardware or software home navigation button, and it will prompt Alexa ready to listen to your voice commands.

Amazon Alexa Assistant

Amazon Alexa has made its way to Android phones as an assistant, but its functionality is limited as of now. You can’t pull off Maps or make calls using Alexa nor you can summon the AI by calling out its name or squeezing the device.
