To give a stiff competition to Twitter, Mark Zuckerberg recently launched its fiercest rival ‘Threads’ app. Threads is basically an Instagram app that is Meta’s answer to Twitter.  Unlike Instagram, Threads is focused on a text-based conversation style interface, where one can have focused and meaningful discussions with other users.

Joining Threads is very easy as all those having an Instagram account can directly go to the Threads app and get an account registered with the same name, bio, and other details. If you have recently joined Threads, your account will be set to ‘public’ regardless of your Instagram account status. If you want to make your Threads account private so that only those who you choose to accept as your followers can view and interact with your content, you can do this in a few simple steps.

Steps to Make Threads Account Private

  • Open the ‘Threads’ app and go to the ‘Profile Tab’.
  • Click on the Menu icon on the top right and click on ‘Privacy’ from the options.
  • Inside the Privacy tab, enable the Private Profile toggle.
  • Click on OK on the popup to confirm switching your profiles from Public to Private.

You have successfully made your Threads account profile private.

Note- Your Threads and Instagram account are different entities so changing the privacy settings on Threads will not impact the privacy settings on Instagram. This means even if your Insta account is public, you can still keep your Threads account private or vice versa.

In case you want to make your Threads account public like before, you just have to disable the toggle and click on OK. Your account will become public again.

How can making Threads Account private benefit?

Making your Threads Account private will ensure that you have complete control over who can view and interact with your content. A private account ensures that your posts and discussions are only visible to your approved followers. With a private account, you can better protect yourself from spam and unwanted messages as only approved people interact with you.
