Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei has released the first official trailer for its upcoming tri-fold smartphone, the Mate XT. Unlike the regular foldables in the market, the Mate XT features a triple-folding display and a quad-camera setup on the back. While the upcoming smartphone happens to be a major focus of the trailer, so does popular actor and filmmaker Andy Lau. Here’s everything we noticed about the Huawei Mate XT and its tri-folding design in the trailer.

In the first few seconds of the trailer, we see Lau blowing off dust from an old film tap kept in some sort of store. In the seventh second, we get to see the Huawei Mate XT in a pale rustic color with a premium leather finish. The shot reveals the smartphone’s rear panel, which contains an octagonal camera bump with four sensors and the text “Ultimate Design” imprinted in the center (in a vertical fashion).

Phone’s Top Panel Features Multiple Antenna Bands

The next few shots show Lau putting together the films into what looks like a retro bioscope or a motion picture projector. Then we get another shot of the foldable’s top edge, which shows a circular hinge covering, quite a few antenna bands, and what looks like two circular openings, which could house a microphone and an IR blaster. Then we see Andy Lau’s name on the screen, on a film reel. The rest of the trailer contains Lau setting up a projector on a beach and screening a countdown on a boulder.

It is clear that Huawei is trying to place the Mate XT as a tri-foldable with an exceptional camera setup, one that can click cinematic photos or videos. According to a report by Innogyan, the handset will feature a main camera with a physically variable aperture. It also has a periscope telephoto lens for zooming in on distant subjects. Further, the report also mentions how the phone is equipped with an ultra-thin custom USB Type-C interface to maintain a slim profile.

The Smartphone To Ship With A Custom-Designed BOE Display

The Huawei Mate XT will feature a custom tri-folding screen designed by BOE. Unfolding the device will provide users with an aspect ratio similar to that of a tablet. However, that is the extent of new information on the smartphone. Those who are excited about the first triple-foldable smartphone have to wait until September 10, 2024, for the company to reveal it. Meanwhile, Tecno also unveiled its first tri-folding smartphone at the IFA 2024. However, the company hasn’t announced a launch date for the same.
