Huawei P40 series debut is in crossroads of the Coronavirus pandemic and the company’s personal business woes. Earlier, the event was supposed to be an on-ground one in Paris. But, now it is confined to web-only due to Covid-19 fears. The official teaser hints at the phone’s (probably P40 Pro) massive camera hump. It also emphasizes the focus on #visionaryphotography.

As you may know, Huawei P lineup caters primarily to photo-taking capabilities and the design dynamics. The corral of spec leaks and rumors also upholds this sentiment. The premium-est of the lot is said to flaunt 5 cameras at the back and bring features such as 10x ‘optical’ zoom.

There’s that and more interesting things to unfurl here. This time around, we might get three phones under the P40 umbrella – the standard P40, the P40 Pro and the P40 Pro Premium. So, without any further ado, let’s go through the available details.

Expected specs and features

Huawei P40 Pro

Let’s start with the optics. As aforementioned, the P40 Pro Premium will pack Penta cameras on the back. This constitutes a custom 52MP/ 64MP Sony IMX686 main RYYB sensor, a 40MP ultrawide shooter, an 8MP (10x optical zoom, 125mm periscope lens) telephoto zoomer, a ToF unit, and a macro module.

The P40 Pro (non-premium one) will bag Quad setup whilst the base model will stick to just 3 rear snappers.

As for the front, the selfies are likely to be handled by a 32MP primary paired by a TOF 3D depth sensor. The dual snappers will be nested within a pill-shaped punch hole to the top left corner of a 6.7-inch display. This is supposedly a 120Hz panel with DCI-P3 standard, HDR10+ capability.

At the core, needless to say, the phone will house the Kirin 990 chipset. Now, it’s possible we might see both 4G and 5G variants. The 5G one will support both SA and NSA (Dual-mode 5G) networks, both FDD and TDD frequencies. The chip doesn’t facilitate mmWave bands though!

This is likely to carry up to 512GB of UFS 3.0 internal storage, 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256gigs of hybrid expansion. The phone could come with a 5500mAh battery that ropes in 50W fast wired charging, 27W fast wireless charging, and reverse charging too.

Amongst other things, the phones are expected to sport an in-display fingerprint scanner, Bluetooth 5.1, USB-C socket, IP68 dust/water resistance, 4k60 fps video, hybrid dual nano-SIM, and Android 10 based EMUI software.

And that software will be the bone of contention for its scaled sale. Let’s see with the new App Gallery and the incentivized developer support, how the Huawei Mobile Services will fare.
