Huawei P40 Pro+ with 100x Zoom, Kirin 990 5G and HMS goes official

P40 series is the show of Huawei’s might amid all the US-China trade tussle. There’s no need to go over all that as you must be well-versed by now. Nonetheless, Huawei has pulled off an alternative to both Google Mobile Services and Play Store. We will get to them in a sec. But before that, here’s a quick rundown through the launch event highlights –

  • Huawei has unveiled 3 new phones i.e., Huawei P40, Huawei P40 Pro and Huawei P40 Pro+.
  • The headliner viz. P40 Pro+ packs flagship-grade Kirin 990 5G and Android 10 based EMUI 10.1.
  • The phones carry proprietary software alternatives to Google’s services called Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) and App Gallery.
  • The standout aspects of the camera include – 50MP primary Ultravision RYYB sensor, 16-in-1 XD pixel binning, and 100X zoom.

Huawei P40 Pro+

At the core, the P40 Pro Plus 5G runs on a 5G-capable Kirin 990 chipset. The phone will be available in multiple memory configurations maxing up to 8GB RAM and 512GB onboard storage.

And coming to the software, you have Android 10 based EMUI 10.1 but without Google services. Instead, you get Huawei Mobile Services and App Gallery. The bag of tricks includes things like split-screen multitasking, Huawei’s own Celia voice assistant, a video-calling app called MeeTime. On-stage, Huawei showcased a flock of content and app partners. It also welcomed devs from all across the globe to join the club.

On the surface, you get a 6.58″ curved 90Hz display that overflows all the way. This panel sports DCI-P3 and HDR10+. There is an in-screen fingerprint reader. Within that dual-punch-hole lies a 32MP sensor and an IR depth-sensing module.

Huawei P40 Pro+ rear camera specifics

By the back, there is a Leica Ultra Vision Penta Cam (50MP RYYB Ultra Vision sensor + 40MP ultra-wide + 8MP 10x optical telephoto zoom+ 8MP 3x optical telephoto zoom + ToF depth unit) setup. Huawei has also introduced directional audio zoom and AI sorcery in the camera segment.

All of this is powered by a 4200mAh battery that supports 40W Wired and even W Wireless SuperCharge. Among other things, you also get IP68 water resistance, eSIM, NFC, Bluetooth 5.1, WiFi AX and 5G.
