Ever since Hyundai released the entry-level crossover Exter’s CNG variant, buyers have been waiting for the company to adopt the dual-cylinder technology that saves up the boot space. Now, the second-largest automaker in the country has launched the Hyundai Exter Hy-CNG Duo. Of course, Tata pioneered the technology in India, but considering its utility, other companies are following suit. Let’s check out all the features and prices of the new dual-cylinder CNG variant of the Hyundai Exter.

Hyundai Exter Hy-CNG Duo Drivetrain And Mileage

While the new Exter’s exteriors remain the same, the drivetrain has undergone major changes. The Exter’s Hy-CNG Duo features a 1.2-liter bi-fuel Kappa engine that produces peak power and torque of 69 PS and 95.2 Nm, respectively. The drivetrain is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. It is worth mentioning that the bi-fuel variant is less powerful than the regular petrol version.
The fuel tank capacity, as mentioned on the official website, is 37 liters for the petrol tank and 60 liters (water equivalent) for the CNG tank. The ARAI-certified mileage is 27.1 kilometers per kilogram of CNG, which is only slightly better than the Tata Punch i-CNG (26.9 kilometers per kilogram). Last but not least, the company is offering a three-year warranty on the CNG system, which should instill confidence among buyers.

The dual-cylinder technology should also improve the Exter CNG’s boot space. While the regular petrol variant has a 391-liter boot space, Hyundai hasn’t released an official number for the Exter Hy-CNG Duo. Nonetheless, as seen in the Tata Punch i-CNG, fitting the boot with two smaller and longer cylinders spares a majority of the boot space. Hence, we should be looking at around 250 to 300 liters on the new Exter.

While those are the main highlights of the Exter Hy-CNG Duo, the vehicle offers a smart electric sunroof, LED daytime running lights, LED tail maps, automatic temperature control, and a large infotainment screen. Safety features on the vehicle include six airbags, a tire-pressure monitoring system, electronic stability control, and hill-start assist.
