Indian Smartphone Market had its Highest Ever October Shipments this year: IDC

Mobile phones are at the front and center of our lives. The latest IDC smartphone market analysis is a testament to this. According to it, the market grew by 42 percent thanks to shipments of 21 million units in October, making it the second-highest for a month this year. The first one being September. So, it’s been two months back to back.

IDC points to the recent festive sales as the reason which came to feed the pent-up demand from the previous quarter.

Online platforms were the major channel of sales with a 51% share of the aforementioned shipment volume and themselves gaining 53% YoY growth. That said, even brick and mortar stores had a sound 33% YoY surge.

The premium segment saw considerable growth paved by the online sale of high-end handsets like iPhone 11, iPhone XR, and OnePlus 8.

Meanwhile, the low to mid-range segment pulled off a 60% growth and attained a 58% share of the total market in October.

If we talk about major players, the names include Xiaomi (24.8%), Samsung (20.6%), Vivo (17.8%), Realme (13.8%), and Oppo (12.3%). Interestingly enough, Poco, the Xiaomi offshoot brand, has made its way to the top 5 smartphone brands in India this year. It is now the 4th largest online phone brand in the country owing to its releases like Poco X3 and C3.
