October was a good month for car makers in India. According to industry data, the passenger vehicle market in India reached a record high in terms of volume in October 2025. This was largely amplified by the festive season and the GST revision which reduced taxes on cars. According to data from the government’s Vahan portal, the domestic car market in India jumped 17.23 percent year-on-year to 4,70,227 units in October 2025. This is the highest-ever volume recorded in a month in India, beating the previous best of 4,05,522 units back in January this year.
While cars across segments and price ranges have become cheaper thanks to the new and revised GST rates, a lot of it was fuelled by festivals like Dussehra, Diwali, Dhanteras, and Navratri. And while every car-maker was able to enjoy a piece of this, one company saw a decline in their numbers despite the GST and festive push last month. Hyundai Motor India was the only brand in the country that witnessed a decline in their sales numbers last month.
Maruti Suzuki Keeps Comfortable Lead
The biggest car brand in the country is bound to benefit from any big push, and that has been the case with Maruti Suzuki as well. The company clocked a total of 1,76,318 units in October 2025, witnessing a growth of 10.48 percent year-on-year. In terms of the cars, in October, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx was the best-selling Maruti car, shipping 28,327 units last month.

Apart from the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, other cars like the Swift Dzire, the Swift, Maruti Ertiga, WagonR, Baleno, and the likes helped the car-maker achieve the impressive sales number.
Mahindra SUVs Finally Claim Number 2 Spot

Mahindra saw a significant growth in their numbers. The company registered a 31.41 percent growth at 71,624 units in October, which is massive given that the brand only sold 54,504 units in September last month. In a statement to Moneycontrol, Mahindra’s Automotive Division CEO Nalinikanth Gollagunta said that this October, Mahindra and Mahindra has clocked its highest-ever SUV wholesales during a month. Last month, Mahindra also launched its new versions of the Thar, Bolero, and the Bolero Neo.
Tata Takes Third Spot

Tata has also reported an increase of 27.02 percent in October 2025 as compared to the previous year. This October, the company sold 61,134 units were sold last month, up from 46,131 units from a year back. Tata said that this was led by an equally good response in the brand’s SUVs and EVs. Tata said that the Nexon’s volume rose by 50 percent year-on-year, becoming Tata’s best-selling car for the month. The company also said that a strong momentum was also witnessed for the Adventure X and Harrier EV variants.
Hyundai Only Brand To See Decline

Hyundai Motor India was the only brand that saw a minor decline in its sales numbers as compared to last year. According to industry data, Hyundai saw a decline of 3.2 percent year-on-year, selling 53,792 units in October 2025. Now, this isn’t too sharp of a decline, but it has brought Hyundai down two ranks in a matter of one month, given that the brand was at number two in September.
Toyota Now In Top 5

Japanese maker Toyota continued its rise in a fashionable manner. The brand saw the best impact of GST and festive rush, clocking the best growth of 43.07 percent in the top 10 brands from last month. The company, in a statement, said that “this (GST reforms and festive season) has resulted in a significant rise in customer enquiries and order intakes, collectively driving our overall performance.” The brand also said that people’s increased interest in their latest Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Aero Edition and 2025 Gortuner Leader Edition have received tremendous response for their unique styling and value proposition.
