Apple has recently released the iOS 17.2 RC to beta testers, and the new update contains a useful feature for iPhone 13 and iPhone 14. All the eight models in these lineups, including the regular iPhones, the Plus/mini version, and the four Pro variants, currently support Qi wireless charging, which isn’t the latest standard. However, as and when the iOS 17.2 stable update arrives, it will change this.

iOS 17.2 Will Enable Faster Wireless Charging On These iPhones

According to iOS 17.2’s changelog, the update will bring Qi2 wireless charging support for all iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 models. This would make the 2021 and 2022 iPhone models compatible with the latest standard and effectively increase the wireless charging speed from 7.5W up to 15W. The Qi2 standard also has better MagSafe alignment and power efficiency, as WPC worked closely with Apple for this one.

Before Apple pushes out an iOS version to everyone, it drops a release candidate for the beta testers. Mostly, it is the release candidate that makes it the final, stable update that is available to everyone. Hence, the Qi2 wireless charging compatibility should be available to users soon. Previously, only the latest iPhone 15 models were compatible with the newest standard.

Qi2 Wireless Chargers Should Be Available Soon

Although there are no Qi2-compatible wireless chargers in the market, they should arrive by the end of this year or in early 2024. According to WPC, over 100 devices are in the certification queue, which means that users with an iPhone 13 or iPhone 14 should soon be able to purchase a faster wireless charger. In 2024, several Android devices, primarily the flagships, should also adopt the new wireless charging standard.
