While the iPhone 16 models are now available in the market, they still don’t have one of the biggest features touted at the Glowtime launch event: Apple Intelligence. The company’s biggest best against Galaxy AI and Google AI, Apple Intelligence, refers to the suite of AI-infused features that enable on-device processing for tasks like text generation, summarization, image generation, etc.
For now, we know that Apple Intelligence should roll out next month as part of the stable iOS 18.1 update. If you wish to gain early access, you can consider downloading the iOS 18.1 Developer Beta 5, but that entails signing up for the developer program. Most recently, Apple has revealed how much storage the Appl Intelligence features would occupy.

Prepare Your iPhone For A Sizeable iOS 18.1 Update

While the iOS 18 update can occupy somewhere around 4GB of storage on your device (varies for each user), Apple’s support document states that Apple Intelligence would require another 4GB of storage. Together, they could occupy a significant chunk of storage, especially for users with a baseline iPhone 15 Pro (review) or iPhone 16 (review) with 128GB of storage.
“Apple Intelligence is available on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, all iPhone 16 models, and iPad and Mac models with M1 and later.” The support page clearly mentions that “iPhone devices need 4GB of storage.” Hence, it is a good idea to free up some storage as and when you get some time.

It is important to mention that Apple Intelligence will eventually need more storage as the company adds more features to it; 4GB is just the bare minimum space you need to install them. With iOS 18.2 (in December), Apple should roll out features like Genmoji, Image Playground, and ChatGPT integration, which would again need more storage.
Another major update could roll out in March 2025, which would unlock screen awareness for Siri and release Apple Intelligence in more countries. From what it looks like, it will get more difficult for the 128GB variant owners to keep up with the sizeable updates.
