So, iOS 18 just dropped, and it’s packed with some pretty sweet updates. Finally, we’ve got features like RCS support, T9 dialing, call recording, and more. It’s clear that Apple is stepping up its game. But hold up—before you dive into the iOS 18 hype, let’s talk about what’s still missing.

Long-Requested Features Added in iOS 18

Many of the features included in iOS 18 have been long requested by both Apple users and critics. Here’s a list of some of the most prominent ones:

  1. The calculator now includes unit conversions and Math Notes for quick calculations using handwriting. There’s also a delete button now.
  2. Scheduled messages are now a feature.
  3. Several AI features have been integrated into the software.
  4. T9 dialing is now available.
  5. RCS support has been added.
  6. You can lock and hide apps.
  7. Siri has been greatly improved with Apple Intelligence.
  8. You can change lock screen shortcuts.
  9. Call recording is now supported (although only on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max).
  10. You can place home screen icons wherever you want. You can even give them any color tone.
  11. Settings have been revamped; there is a new folder for the apps and a short summary is displayed at the top of each setting.

The Missing Pieces

Despite the cool new features, there are still plenty of customization options that iOS 18 didn’t include—features that Android users have been enjoying for ages. Here’s what’s still missing in action:

  1. There is no partial screen recording. Sure, you can crop it later but it would be better to have it already there.
  2. There is no guest mode or second user option.
  3. There is no universal back gesture.
  4. Camera settings are still not in the Camera app.
  5. App-specific volume control is missing.
  6. You can’t customize which notifications you want from an app.
  7. There is no real game mode (show FPS, device temperature, and more).
  8. You can’t hide files and folders.
  9. There are no floating windows.
  10. There is no maintenance or repair mode.
  11. There is no status bar customization. You can’t customize what is displayed in the status bar.
  12. There is no option to clear the cache of apps.
  13. There is no direct Restart button.
  14. There is no way to clear the data of apps without deleting them.
  15. You cannot use custom fonts on the system.
  16. There are no AI wallpapers.
  17. You can’t choose a pattern instead of just a password or PIN.
  18. There are no separate ring and notification volumes.
  19. You can’t clone apps.
  20. There is no auto-brightness toggle in the control center.
  21. There are no third-party launchers.
  22. You can’t pin apps in the RAM.
  23. Notifications are still a nightmare.
  24. There is no support for split screen.
  25. There is no clipboard to save text and images.
  26. There is no sidebar to quickly open up apps, access clipboard, or do something else.
  27. There is no sideloading (similar to APKs).
  28. You can’t resize the home screen layout.

The Bottom Line

Sure, iOS 18 is a major step forward, but it’s not quite the customization king that Android is. While Apple has made strides, there are still many features that we’re eagerly waiting for. If you are planning to switch from Android, then there are many features that you will still find missing.
