Cupertino-based tech giant Apple is working on new, top-of-the-line iPad Pro models. These will feature major hardware improvements, including a new silicone chip, an OLED display, a redesigned Magic Keyboard, and upgrades in the camera. Codenamed J717, J718, J720, and J721, the new iPad Pro models can debut in the second half of 2024.

iPad Pro With M3 Chip

In his newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman states that the 2024 iPad Pro models “will shift to the next-generation M3 chip,” based on TSMC’s 3nm technology. The chipset will likely come with an eight-core CPU and a 10-core GPU, similar to what we’ve seen on the M2 silicone. While this version for iPads should be more efficient, high-end M3 variants, like the M3 Pro and M3 Ultra, will offer more power for handling heavy workflows for professionals.

2024 iPad Pro To Feature OLED Displays

Gurman also mentions that the upcoming iPad Pro variants will feature OLED displays, becoming the company’s first tablets to utilize better display technology. Naturally, the displays will be brighter, sharper, and more color-accurate than the M2 iPad Pro lineup that relies on IPS technology. Currently, only iPhones offer OLED displays.

New Size And Magic Keyboard

The 2024 iPad Pro could come in two sizes: 11-inch and 13-inch. While the former is similar to the 11-inch M2 iPad Pro, the latter will offer a tad more screen estate than the 12.9-inch M2 iPad Pro. From what it seems, Apple is not trying to run behind large-screen tablets, at least for now.

The company will also launch a revamped Magic Keyboard with the 2024 iPad Pro to boost sales. Compared to the current version, the upcoming Magic Keyboard will offer a larger trackpad and, as per Gurman, make the devices “look even more like a laptop than the current setup.”

While the 2024 iPad Pro upgrades seem promising, all eyes are on Apple’s iPhone 15 launch event, which could take place on September 12, 2023. Recently, the company has also stated that it is expecting a drastic drop in revenue due to slumped demands post-surge due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
