Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives said today in an investor note seen by MacRumors that Apple’s iPhone 13 will launch in the third week of September with 1TB of internal storage.

It was only last week that Taiwanese research firm TrendForce had predicted Apple would launch the iPhone 13 in September. Even though the iPhone 12 series was announced in October last year, likely due to pandemic-related delays, Apple is expected to return to its September release schedule for the iPhone 13 series. The third week of the month is one option that Ives has consistently retained. Past events suggest that Tuesday, September 7, September 14, and September 21 are all possible dates for the announcement or event, with the launch occurring the following Friday.

Since at least March, Ives has claimed that the iPhone 13 series will feature 1TB storage options, and the most recent report is essentially him doubling down on that claim. The 1TB capacity would be double the current highest 512GB offering for the iPhone 12. If the camera upgrades take center stage this year, as is expected for the Pro models, then providing more onboard storage would be a logical step forward.

Mark Gurman of Bloomberg reports that Apple has several iPhone 13 Pro improvements ready aimed at professional videographers and users. A video version of Portrait mode will be available in the upcoming iPhones, allowing people to record videos that focus on a person and blur out the background. Apple calls this “Cinematic Video” internally.

Apple also plans to add a higher-quality ProRes video recording option. Videos in ProRes format are designed for video editors and will result in large file sizes with HD and 4K resolution options. Apple added ProRAW with the iPhone 12 Pro, and ProRes is the video equivalent. This feature is expected to be exclusive to the ‌iPhone 13‌ Pro models.

The iPhone 13 Pro models are expected to have an upgraded Ultra-Wide lens. In the iPhone 12 models, Apple used a fixed focal length Ultra-Wide camera. The iPhone 13 Pro models are expected to include an upgraded 6-element lens, along with autofocus.

With LiDAR sensors on all models of the iPhone 13, beginning with the entry-level iPhone 13 mini and continuing through the flagship iPhone 13 Pro Max, more realistic AR experiences are possible, and low-light autofocus is improved.

iPhone 13 Features Highlights (expected)

The new devices are expected to be powered by the Apple A15 chip, which has many cores as the A14.

  • Apple’s iPhone 13 lineup is expected to look similar to the outgoing iPhone 12. A 5.4-inch iPhone 13 mini and a 6.1-inch iPhone 13 make up the mid-range devices. A 6.1-inch iPhone 13 Pro and a 6.7-inch iPhone 13 Pro Max are above them.
  • There will be new 120Hz ProMotion displays on the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max models, enabling smoother scrolling and improved on-screen movement.
  • Across the board, the notch is expected to shrink.
  • Video recording is set to be improved through a new Portrait Mode, dubbed Cinematic Mode. According to Gurman, ProRes support is also in the works.

Apple is expected to announce the new devices next month, and to release them a week or so after the big event.
