As we are inching closer to the Apple Far Out Launch Event on September 7, there’s an increased influx of rumors around the upcoming iPhone 14 series. Apparently, one of the latest updates comes from top-notched Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo according to whom, the iPhone 14 series could be equipped with satellite communications functionalities now that Apple has concluded with hardware testing. Note that it doesn’t mean the feature will be available right away, there are a few things to consider here.

Apple iPhone 14 series could get satellite communications

According to Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple has concluded with hardware testing of satellite communications that will put upcoming iPhones ahead of the game. It is unclear whether Apple has concluded with the business model of supporting this feature or not so we need to wait for more updates around it.

Apparently, Apple’s satellite communication hardware has been ready since iPhone 13, however, it couldn’t figure out an appropriate business model with the carriers which is why the feature wasn’t included. Cut to iPhone 14 series, the feature has passed the hardware testing phase and it is highly likely to be included in the upcoming models. However, the condition here is the same, Apple needs to negotiate deals with satellite communications service providers in order to give the feature a green signal.

iPhone 14 Series Satellite Connectivity

Once the feature goes into action, it is likely to allow only emergency texting or voice services. It is also because satellite communications are available even if there are no cell towers such as in scheduled places such as deep into the jungles. However, the tech is still expensive so that’s something Apple will have to consider as well.

The analyst further puts it that Apple might have partnered with Globalstar, a satellite operator, however, the terms and conditions are yet to be finalized.

Apple is all set to launch iPhone 14 series along with Apple Watch Series 8, newer iPad models, and Apple Watch SE among others at the event on September 7 at Steve Jobs Theatre, Cupertino, which will be Livestream across the globe as well.
