In a strategic move to bolster the volume of new iPhones manufactured in India, Apple.’s forthcoming iPhone 15 is reportedly poised to be produced in Tamil Nadu. A Foxconn Technology Group facility in Sriperumbudur is gearing up to deliver the latest iPhone models, shortly after their launch in China, according to a report from Bloomberg News. This initiative aims to minimize the gap between Indian and Chinese manufacturing operations.

Besides Foxconn, the iPhone 15 assembly in India may also involve Pegatron and Tata Group. Bloomberg’s sources, familiar with the matter, indicate that Tata Group is in the process of acquiring Taiwan’s Wistron plant in the outskirts of Bangalore.

iPhone enthusiasts can anticipate the ‘made in India’ iPhone 15 hitting the market a few weeks after its expected announcement on September 12. The Sriperumbudur plant’s swift shipping capabilities could play a crucial role in achieving this timeline.

Historically, iPhone assembly in India has experienced delays of six to nine months. However, this trend has been shifting since the iPhone 14, with a reduction in the time lag. As of the end of March, 7 percent of iPhone production occurred in India.

As Apple continues to diversify its manufacturing away from China, the iPhone 15 production’s success in India hinges on imported components and seamless operations at Foxconn’s Chennai factory. The company seeks to mitigate supply chain risks arising from trade relations between the US and China.

Capitalizing on financial incentives and partnerships with Taiwanese suppliers, Apple tripled its iPhone production to surpass $7 billion in the previous fiscal year. The company’s commitment to India is underscored by its recent retail store openings and robust double-digit growth in iPhone sales during the June quarter.

Apple’s strategic expansion into Indian manufacturing not only bolsters its retail prospects but also positions the country as a potential hub for long-term production growth. CEO Tim Cook reaffirmed this commitment after meeting with Prime Minister Modi during his April visit.
