Apple launched its iPhone 14 Series in the 2nd half of 2022 and though there is more than half a year before the successor, the iPhone 15 Series has already started making a buzz in tech circles. Speculations are rife that Apple is planning to switch to USB Type-C port for iPhone 15 models. Also, the top-end iPhone 15 model might ditch the Pro Max moniker and be renamed as iPhone 15 Ultra.  Let us have a look at everything we know about the iPhone 15 Series so far.

Is iPhone 15 Series confirmed?

The yearly iPhone series is a confirmed event for Apple, so iPhone 15 Series will surely be launched in 2023 though the devices might not get too many or too major updates. The iPhone 15 Series is expected to have 4 models- iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max/Ultra.

iPhone 15 Series: Expected Launch Timeline

Like every year, Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 15 Series in September 2023. The invites for the event are sent out a couple of weeks prior, which is when the exact launch date is announced.

iPhone 15 Series: Design

Apple’s iPhone 15 is expected to get one of the biggest design changes as the models in the upcoming series might ditch Apple’s proprietary lightning port and feature a USB Type-C port. While Apple has already done away with the lightning port on the current iPad and MacBook lineup, it might be time for iPhone to make this transition too. The regular iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus might have current transfer speeds, but the high-end models are expected to have faster transfer speeds.

The iPhone 15 models are also said to have solid-state volume and power buttons, just like the home button on iPhone SE. The upcoming iPhone series is tipped to have curved side frames with a titanium frame and body.

iPhone 15 Series: Expected Specs

Chipset & RAM

The top variants, iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max/Ultra are expected to be powered by unannounced Apple’s A17 Bionic chipset. On the other hand, iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus might be powered by the A16 Bionic chipsets that are currently seen on iPhone 14 Pro. The A17 chipset is expected to be based on 3nm manufacturing to give better battery efficiency and performance boost over the existing chipsets.

Coming to the RAM and storage, iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max might get 8GB RAM whereas the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will have 6GB RAM and 128GB storage.

Camera

In terms of the camera, iPhone 15 series is not expected to get any major upgrades, especially since a bunch of new sensors were introduced for iPhone 14 series. There are reports of Apple working on a periscope lens that might come to the iPhone 15 Pro max/ultra. It will enable optical zoom capabilities going up to 5x or 10x zoom levels, as opposed to the current 3x zooming capability.

Display

The display sizes are expected to remain the same for all 4 models which means iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro will have a 6.1-inch display, and iPhone 15 Plus and iPhone 15 Pro Max will have a 6.7-inch display. The non-pro iPhone 15 models are said to have a pill-shaped Dynamic island. High refresh rates are expected in pro models only.

Not much is known about batteries and other aspects as of now.

Apple iPhone 15 Series: Expected Price

The iPhone 15 models are said to have a similar price tag to that of the iPhone 14 models in India. At least, the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will have almost the same price as the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus.  iPhone 14 launched for Rs. 79,900 while the Plus model cost Rs. 89,900, with 128GB storage for the base variant.

Coming to the Pro models, Apple might retain almost the same price or hike it slightly depending on the upgrades these smartphones get. Currently, iPhone 14 Pro starts at Rs. 1,29,900 while the iPhone 14 Pro Max starts at Rs. 1,39,900.
