TL;DR

  • The iPhone SE 4 could debut by the end of the first calendar quarter in 2025.
  • Besides an in-house modem, the iPhone SE 4 is said to feature a 6.1-inch OLED screen.

We are about two months into the launch of the iPhone 16 series, but rumors about another iPhone are already doing rounds on the internet. This time, they aren’t about the iPhone 17 series that is said to arrive later next year. We are talking about the iPhone SE 4, which could fill the gap between the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 17 launch.

iPhone SE 4: Expected Launch Timeline

iPhone SE 4 To Borrow iPhone 14's Display

According to a report by MacRumors, the iPhone SE 4 could debut by the end of the first calendar quarter in 2025. The publication cites a research note from Barclays analyst Tom O’Malley, who, along with his team, met with several electronics suppliers and manufacturers in Asia and confirmed the arrival of the fourth-generation iPhone SE next year.

Given that the first quarter ends in March, there’s a very high chance that Apple will unveil the iPhone SE 4 in March 2025. The last iPhone SE also came out in the same month in 2022. Given that Apple likes to stick with its launch cycles more than anything, it makes sense that the company is eyeing a March 2025 launch instead of integrating the iPhone SE 4 in the iPhone 17 launch event that might take place in September next year.

iPhone SE 4 Could Feature Apple’s First In-House 5G Modem

Snapdragon 5G Modem

iPhone SE 4 is an important launch for Apple. The Cupertino-based tech giant has been working on an in-house 5G modem for years, but to no avail. In 2024, the company extended its agreement with Qualcomm (for 5G modem supply) for another two years. Even the latest flagship series from Apple, i.e., the iPhone 16, features Qualcomm’s 5G modem.

However, that could change with the iPhone SE 4, which is rumored to be the first iPhone with the company’s 5G modem. We aren’t sure whether the modem will provide better or worse download speeds than Qualcomm’s, but one thing is for sure: it will give the company the feedback and the backing for including its modems in the flagship iPhone series.

iPhone SE 4: Other Specifications

Besides an in-house modem, the iPhone SE 4 is said to feature a 6.1-inch OLED screen, similar to that of the vanilla iPhone 14. Under the hood, the smartphone is said to run on Apple’s A18 processor (with 8GB of RAM), which will unlock Apple Intelligence for budget buyers and futureproof the iPhone for the years to come by. Besides, the smartphone will sport a USB-C port, a 48MP camera, and a 12MP front camera.

iPhone SE 4: Expected Price

The current iPhone SE starts at $429 in the United States and Rs. 47,600 for the 64GB variant. However, given that it will support Apple Intelligence, which itself carries a few gigabytes of storage, it will make sense for the iPhone SE 4 to ship with 128GB base storage.

If that happens, buyers should prepare for a price hike, roughly around 5 to 10% of the previous price.
