iQOO Extends Software Update Promise for iQOO 12 to 5 Years

In a surprising move, iQOO today extended the software update cycle for one of its smartphones. The iQOO 12, launched in 2023, was initially promised 3 Android OS version updates and 4 years of security updates. Now, per the latest announcement, the iQOO 12 will receive 4 Android OS version updates and 5 years of security updates.

This additional one-year update extension means the iQOO 12 will ultimately receive Android 18 and security updates until the year 2028. This announcement follows a recent price reduction on Amazon, bringing the phone’s cost down to Rs 46,000.

Announcing the news, the iQOO team stated, “At iQOO, we are committed to delivering cutting-edge performance, seamless experiences, and long-term value for our users. This updated policy reflects our dedication to keeping your devices secure, up-to-date, and running smoothly for years to come.”

iQOO 12 Specifications

The iQOO 12 5G is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset with a dedicated Q1 chip, up to 16GB of RAM, and 1TB of onboard storage. It runs Android 15 with the Funtouch OS 15 custom skin on top and features a 6.78-inch 1.5K LTPO OLED panel with a 144Hz refresh rate, 3000 nits of brightness, and 2160Hz PWM dimming.

Regarding camera optics, the phone features a triple-lens setup on the back, including a 50MP primary camera with OIS, a 50MP ultrawide angle camera, and a 64MP periscope telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and 100x digital zoom. The front houses a 16MP camera for selfies. Under the hood, the phone packs a 5,000mAh battery with 120W wired fast charging.
