OpenAI Is Reportedly Exploring Web Browser Prototypes

According to a report by The Information, OpenAI is considering creating a web browser infused with ChatGPT. The report added that the company has discussed the AI-integrated search tool with developers like Priceline, Eventbrite, Redfin, and Conde Nast, citing anonymous sources who have seen the initial design or prototypes of the products.

It is important to mention that the company is already testing “SearchGPT, a prototype of new search features designed to combine the strength of our [OpenAI’s] AI models with the information from the web to give you [the users] fast and timely answers with clear and relevant sources,” reads an official webpage by OpenAI.

OpenAI’s Entry Into The Browser Space Will Challenge Google

Although OpenAI has seen the initial prototypes for the product, it is not ready to launch. Nonetheless, as and when the company launches a web browser, it will challenge the largest player in the market, Google. Combined with SearchGPT, OpenAI’s web browser seems to have the potential to attract a fair number of users. However, the Alphabet-owned company is also leveling up its AI chatbot game by introducing and integrating Gemini into its products.

What seems to be troubling Google at the moment is the recommendation from the United States Department of Justice about selling Chrome. Anyway, Google’s troubles could be OpenAI’s opportunity, as the company is said to be in talks with Samsung to power some AI-based features on the maker’s smartphones. For now, most Galaxy AI features on Samsung models rely on Google’s Gemini.
