Reliance Jio in collaboration with its wholly-owned subsidiary Radisys Corporation and Qualcomm has begun 5G trials in the country. The concerned parties had a virtual summit to discuss the operation and development of 5G service and infrastructure.

The alliance has also tested Jio 5G NR (New Radio) solution on Qualcomm 5G RAN (Radio access network) Platforms. And attained speeds of up to 1Gbps. The company addressed this achievement as Jio and India’s entry into the Gigabit 5G NR product portfolio. This advances India to the elite league comprising countries like the US, South Korea, Germany, Switzerland, and Australia.

Although 5G is barely at its infancy stage, it should lay “foundation for flexible, virtualized, scalable, and interoperable cellular network infrastructure,” the company believes. So, beyond consumer use cases, the tech will buttress several industrial applications.

“Ecosystem collaborations like this play a critical role in allowing operators and industry verticals to quickly and easily add 5G network coverage and capacity where and when it is needed most,” adds Durga Malladi, Senior Vice President and General Manager, 4G/5G, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.
