Reliance announces JioTele OS for affordable smart TVs in India: Rollout begins on Feb 21

Reliance Jio consistently makes headlines for various developments. Recently, the company’s OTT service, Jio Cinema, officially merged with Disney+Hotstar, resulting in the transfer of all content to JioHotstar and the introduction of new subscription plans starting at ₹149 per month. Additionally, Reliance has unveiled JioTele OS, a new operating system designed for budget-friendly Smart TVs in India.

 This platform serves as an alternative for connected TV users in the country and will feature AI-driven recommendations. The smart TV operating system is set to support popular OTT applications and will integrate both global and regional content. While it remains unconfirmed whether it is based on Google’s Android TV OS, it has been assured that it will receive regular software updates.

JioTele OS: Rollout & Availability

Smart TVs featuring JioTele OS are set to launch on February 21st. Consumers will have the opportunity to buy specific models from brands such as BPL, JVC, Kodak, and Thompson. Additionally, Jio is collaborating with other original equipment manufacturers to ensure that JioTele OS is supported natively, with more models expected to be released shortly.

JioTele OS: Features

  • JioTele OS has been designed to support both TV channels and popular OTT applications. Additionally, Jio has indicated that cloud-based gaming will be compatible with smart TVs operating on JioTele OS, allowing users to manage all functionalities with a single remote control.
  • Furthermore, users will have access to AI-driven content recommendations on JioTele OS. However, further information is pending regarding whether these suggestions will be influenced by the user’s viewing history or by currently popular shows and movies.
  • Jio has also highlighted the new JioTele OS’s capability to seamlessly integrate both regional and international content on smart TVs.
  • The platform promises smooth 4K performance on smart TVs, contingent upon the hardware specifications of the television.
  • Regular software updates will provide ongoing support for new applications and content formats, including security patches to enhance the performance of TVs utilizing the new operating system.
