Kia Corporation has laid a solid electrification roadmap for the coming years, targeting a major portion of sales from electrified vehicles (EVs and hybrids) by 2030. To achieve this, the company will launch several new EVs, invest in creating the supporting infrastructure, design region-specific EVs, and launch hybrid variants of its popular models.

First, Kia aims to achieve annual sales of 4.19 million vehicles by 2030 (which will make up for a global market of 4.5%).

This seems like an ambitious target, as the company sold just over three million units in 2024 (globally). While the company sold around 540,000 units in its native market (down by 4% Y/y), it sold over 2.5 million units overseas (up to 1% Y/y).

In a previous release, the company specified its target for 2025, which is 3.2 million units (including Korea and global markets), which is a mere 3% increase. At this pace, it will be difficult to reach the 4.19 million global sales mark, but the company has a solid roadmap for the coming years.

Out of the 4.19 million vehicles, Kia wants around 2.48 million to be electrified, either fully or partially (a significant jump from the 638,000 units sold in 2024). Kia has set a target of 1.26 million for the former (battery electric vehicles) and 1.07 million for the latter (hybrids).

It is imperative to mention that 2.48 million units will make up for a majority of Kia’s projected sales in 2030. In other words, the company is gearing up for a major transition from ICE to electrified vehicles.

Here’s How Kia Plans To Increase Sales: Focus On EVs, Hybrids, And PBVs

Kia Syros EV

To increase the demand, Kia will unveil 15 fully-electric models and 10 hybrid models in the next five years. The upcoming EVs include the EV2, EV3, EV4, and EV5. With these vehicles and the existing lineup, the company expects to sell 1.6 million in annual EV sales by 2030. In addition to this, the company also plans to invest more resources in developing the required support infrastructure, such as establishing service networks, EV charging stations, etc.

Kia will also launch three new purpose-built vehicles (PBVs), including the PV5 (2025), PV7 (2027), and PV9 (2029), with a target of 250,000 units annually. Soon, the company will also reveal its first pickup truck (ICE-based), dubbed Tasman (with an annual sales target of 80,000 units).

Last but not least, the company wants to strengthen its HEV lineup from six models in 2024 to nine models in 2028 (including hybrid powertrain options for Kia’s major models). Hybrid vehicles should offer improved performance, torque, and fuel efficiency compared to their respective ICE versions.

To cater to the increase in demand, the company eyes production at 13 factories globally.

Kia’s Roadmap For India: More Electric Vehicles, Hybrids For Popular Models

2025 Kia Carens

By 2030, Kia wants its Indian market to grow to 400,000 units annually. In 2024, the company sold around 255,000 units in the country, a 6% increase over last year’s sales.

In the long term, we could also see electric versions of the company’s popular models in India, including the Seltos (Hyundai has already launched the electric Creta) and the newly-launched Syros.

Even though the company expects India’s EV adoption rate to be lower than the global average, it is confident about the anticipated improvement in demand. Further, the company is optimistic about the demand for purpose-built vehicles and hybrids too.

Most recently, Kia launched the new EV6 in India, and in the future, it should also sell other models, like EV3, EV4, and EV5, in the country. As the Seltos arrives with a hybrid powertrain globally, Kia could also launch it in India.
