During Mahindra and Mahindra’s recent earnings call, Rajesh Jejurikar, the esteemed executive director and CEO, made a significant announcement regarding the highly anticipated Thar 5-door variant. Confirming the company’s plans, Jejurikar revealed that the Thar 5-door model is set to hit the market by mid-year.

The forthcoming Thar 5-door, potentially bearing the moniker “Thar Armada” upon its debut, is slated to roll out from a distinct production line, separate from its 3-door counterpart. This strategic decision, affirmed by Jejurikar, aims to address the persisting lengthy waiting period for the Thar 3-door variant. Reiterating previous announcements, Jejurikar disclosed that the Thar 5-door model is scheduled for a mid-year release within this calendar year.

Considerable information has already surfaced regarding the Thar 5-door, encompassing its design intricacies, powertrain specifications, and array of features. Additionally, it’s anticipated that certain components will be shared with other Mahindra models, such as the Thar 3-door and the Scorpio line-up. As the launch date draws closer, enthusiasts can anticipate a gradual release of new insights and details concerning the Thar 5-door.

What To Expect ?

In terms of design, the Thar 5-door will boast an expanded wheelbase in contrast to its three-door counterpart, thereby enhancing interior cabin space. Notable exterior updates include a redesigned front radiator grille, LED headlamps with integrated daytime running lights (DRLs), and larger 19-inch alloy wheels. Furthermore, the addition of two seats in the third row contributes to the overall seating capacity and versatility of the vehicle.

Recent spy shots have substantiated that the upcoming SUV will be equipped with an enhanced infotainment system featuring a larger screen and wireless mobile connectivity capabilities. Additionally, the vehicle will feature a single-pane sunroof, dual-zone climate control, a digital instrument cluster, and a 360-degree camera system, augmenting both convenience and safety aspects. Among the notable additions are a rear center armrest, front parking sensors, and an electric fuel lid opener, further enhancing the overall comfort and convenience for occupants.

Beneath its exterior, the Mahindra Thar five-door is anticipated to offer both petrol and diesel powertrain variants. This includes a robust 2.0-liter turbo-petrol engine and a potent 2.2-liter diesel engine, generating impressive power and torque figures of 200bhp/380Nm and 172bhp/400Nm, respectively. Transmission options are expected to include a six-speed manual gearbox and a six-speed torque converter unit, ensuring versatile performance capabilities tailored to diverse driving preferences.
