Mahindra XUV 7XO vs Tata Safari: Battle Of The India 7 Seaters

Mahindra has launched its highly anticipated SUV, the Mahindra XUV 7XO, which is the updated version of the Mahindra XUV 700. This launch comes right after Mahindra launched its 7-seater electric SUV, the Mahindra XEV 9S. The Mahindra XUV 7XO comes with changes across the board over the XUV 700, but it also keeps many of the same elements of the outgoing XUV 700.

The Mahindra XUV 7XO starts at a price of ₹13.66 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards, going up to ₹22.47 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top-end variant. These, however, are introductory prices and will only be valid for the first 40,000 customers in the country.

In terms of features, the Mahindra XUV 7XO comes with many new things like a triple-display dashboard, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system with Dolby Atmos, dual zone climate control, ventilated and powered front seats, and a 540-degree camera which also shows you stuff under the car as well.

In terms of the engine and drivetrain, the XUV 7XO comes with the same options as the Mahindra XUV 700. This includes a 2 litre turbo petrol engine and a 2 litre turbo diesel, mated to a 6 speed automatic or a torque converter automatic. The Mahindra XUV 7XO also comes with all-wheel drive option in the higher trims.

Given the car’s launch, it is one of the only few 7-seater SUVs under the ₹20 lakh price tag. In fact, given the pricing and market placement, the only direct rival to the Mahindra XUV 7XO is the Tata Safari. With that in mind, let us take a look at how the Mahindra XUV 7XO compares against its two direct rivals:

Now, looking at the pricing of the two, the Mahindra XUV 7XO is slightly cheaper than the Tata Safari, starting at ₹13.66 lakh, while the Tata Safari starts at a price of ₹14.66 lakh onwards, meaning there is a price difference of one lakh between the base variant’s ex-showroom price of the two cars.

This price difference is seen across variants of the two cars. The top-end Accomplished X Plus Stealth variant of the Tata Safari is priced at ₹25.96 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), while the top-end AX7L variant of the Mahindra XUV 7XO has been priced ₹23.64 lakh, meaning the difference increases as we go upwards in variants.

Mahindra XUV 7XO vs Tata Safari – Engine and Transmission

Both the Mahindra XUV 7XO and Tata Safari come in diesel and petrol options. The XUV 7XO, however, has a bigger 2.0-litre 4-cylinder mStallion engine, while the Tata Safari comes with Tata’s new 1.5 litre 4 cylinder Hyperion engine. Even the diesel engine on the Mahindra XUV 7XO is a bigger 2.2-litre mHawk CRDe engine, while the Tata Safari comes with Tata’s popular 2-litre Kryotec diesel engine.

So the Mahindra XUV 7XO is more powerful in both the petrol and diesel variants with bigger engines. The Mahindra XUV 7XO diesel generates 182.37 bhp of power and 450 Nm of torque, while the Tata Safari diesel generates 167.6 bhp of power and 350 Nm of torque. Both the cars are mated to either a 6-speed manual transmission or a torque converter automatic.

In terms of performance, it is also important to mention that the Mahindra XUV 7XO has also been launched with a new Da Vinci suspension setup which improves the car’s ride quality as per the reports. The Mahindra XUV 7XO is also available in AWD drivetrain which is limited to the higher-end variants only, but it is an option that the Tata Safari does not offer.

Mahindra XUV 7XO vs Tata Safari – Features

Coming to features, the Mahindra XUV 7XO is the newer car so it offers more features as compared to the Tata Safari. We are getting things like a 540-degree camera which also covers the underbody or four drive modes, and three screens instead of the two on the Tata Safari. With this, it is safe to say that the Mahindra XUV 7XO is looking like a good deal, especially with the introductory price of ₹13.66 lakh (ex-showroom).
