TL; DR
- Maruti’s August 2026 price hikes range from ₹2,500 on entry cars to ₹30,000 on the Baleno.
- Hyundai’s most recent comparable hike was a sub-1% increase across models back in May.
- Rising automotive DRAM costs, pushed up by AI demand, are adding new pricing pressure industry-wide.
Maruti Suzuki has revised prices across its Arena and Nexa lineups for August 2026, with increases ranging from a modest ₹2,500 on entry-level models to a steep ₹30,000 on the Baleno, and industry observers suggest rising memory chip costs could increasingly drive hikes like this going forward.

Which Maruti Models Got Costlier
Entry-level Arena cars like the Alto K10, S-Presso, Celerio, WagonR, and the Carry mini-truck saw the smallest bump, up to ₹2,500, while the Swift rose by up to ₹5,000 and the Dzire and Tour S climbed ₹5,000-7,000. The Ertiga MPV increased by ₹5,000-7,500, and the recently launched Brezza facelift rose by up to ₹5,000. Among Arena models, the Victoris SUV saw the steepest hike at up to ₹10,000.

On the Nexa side, the Baleno absorbed the largest increase in the lineup, up to ₹30,000, notably arriving just weeks before its own facelift launches on September 5. The Fronx, currently India’s most-exported car with an 11% share of exports in Q2 CY2026, rose a comparatively modest ₹7,500, while the eVitara EV climbed ₹20,000, the second-highest hike among Nexa models after the Baleno.
Hyundai Follows With Its Own Hike, Effective Next Month
Hyundai Motor India has separately announced a price increase of up to 1% across its entire passenger vehicle portfolio (the second this year), effective September 2026, covering the Grand i10 Nios, i20, Exter, Venue, Creta, Verna, Alcazar, Tucson, and its EV lineup.

Hyundai has been explicit that this is a ceiling, not a flat rate: the exact revision will vary by model and variant, so a ₹10 lakh Hyundai could rise by up to roughly ₹10,000, while a ₹20 lakh model could see an increase of up to ₹20,000, with actual figures likely to land lower for many variants.

The timing couldn’t be more telling. September marks the beginning of the festive season, which sees the highest car sales in the country. During Onam, Navratri, Dussehra, and Diwali, Indian buyers buy thousands of four-wheelers, driven not just by the festive spirit but also by the exceptional discounts and deals companies offer to boost sales.
To me, it’s clear that brands are shielding their margins from the festive discounts, exchange bonuses, and financing offers manufacturers run through the season.

Of all, I’m most skeptical about the Baleno getting a ₹30,000 revision without a major feature upgrade, especially when the facelift is about to drop on September 5, 2026. If the facelift debuts with a price hike, count the difference from the previous price before the hike.
