Maruti Suzuki is the largest car maker in India. One of the main reasons for that is that the brand has something to offer for everyone. Catering to that, the brand now seems to be working on bringing yet another unique option in the market in the shape of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx Hybrid. Yes, you heard that right. Apart from the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and the Invicto, Maruti is bringing an affordable strong hybrid option to the market with the upcoming Fronx hybrid, which is already available for sale in other international markets.

In a recent report, a test mule of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx Hybrid was spotted testing on Indian roads without any camouflage and a LiDAR sensor mounted on the roof (more on this later). Seeing the leaks, the Fronx Hybrid doesn’t seem to have any changes in terms of the design, but there will be changes. In this article, we will take a look at everything we know about the Maruti Suzuki Fronx Hybrid.

The Maruti Suzuki Fronx Hybrid is expected to use the 1.2 litre three cylinder petrol engine in the Fronx strong hybrid. This engine already powers the Maruti Suzuki Swift and the Dzire in India and produces 80 bhp of power and 112 Nm of torque. With this, there will be an electric battery which will help the Fronx Hybrid to get to a fuel efficiency of up to 35 kmpl.

The Maruti Suzuki Fronx Hybrid is also expected to come with Maruti Suzuki’s new tech called the Series Hybrid system. In many strong hybrid powertrains, the internal combustion engine and electric motors both power the wheels to make things more efficient. In the Series hybrid setup, only the electric motor drives the wheels and the petrol engine acts as a generator. This is also called the “range extender” system and is said to offer better fuel efficiency.

On the inside, there will be a few changes due to the hybrid setup. For example power flow displays, EV-only drive modes, and more. The design is expected to remain similar to the current Fronx, but expect some sort of Hybrid badging of small design details to separate the hybrids from the ICE variants of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx.

In terms of features also there could be a couple of changes. First and foremost, let me get back to the leak on Indian roads. The LiDAR sensor on top of the Fronx hybrid was for ADAS mapping, which means that Hybrid version of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx will come with ADAS features. It is also being said that the Fronx hybrid may come with an AWD setup which is good for off-road terrains.

Currently, we don’t know when the Maruti Suzuki Fronx Hybrid will be launched in India, but reports suggest a debut around late 2026 or early 2027. Once launched, the Fronx hybrid will be the cheapest strong hybrid one will be able to buy in India.
