Maruti Suzuki launched the refreshed 2022 Brezza in India last week and now the company is gearing up to bring another SUV in the country. The company is launching a mid-size SUV in India on July 20. Though Maruti has not revealed the vehicle’s name yet it is likely to bear the “Vitara” nomenclature and will be equipped with mild and strong hybrid powertrains.

The upcoming SUV, codenamed ‘YFG’, will be jointly co-manufactured by Maruti Suzuki and Toyota at the latter’s plant in Karnataka. Toyota has already unveiled the Urban Cruiser HyRyder under this partnership a couple of days back. Now, Maruti will bring its iteration on July 20 with a similar host of specs and features. Previously, the duo brought Maruti Baleno and Toyota Glanza under one roof.

2022 Maruti Suzuki Vitara Nomenclature

Speaking of the upcoming Maruti mid-size SUV name, speculations strongly suggest the brand would go for Vitara as it has dropped the prefix from its popular 2022 Brezza model. Also, the company had Grand Vitara in its portfolio once but it didn’t bring good sales numbers back then. So, Maruti could re-christened the name for its upcoming mid-size SUV in the country.

2022 Maruti Suzuki Vitara Expected Features

As far as alleged Maruti Vitara spec is concerned, it will borrow the major features from its close cousin Toyota HyRyder. It can include a large infotainment and driver cluster, ventilated front seats, panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera, a head-up display, a wireless charging dock, etc. It can also come with support to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for connectivity.

Maruti Suzuki could equip the upcoming 2022 Vitara with a 1.5-litre K-series petrol engine including a 5-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearboxes. For a strong-hybrid performance, the same 1.5L petrol engine can be clubbed with an electric motor. An all-wheel-drive (AWD) variant is also expected.

We are expecting to get more details about the upcoming 2022 Maruti Suzuki Vitara in the coming days. For now, it is quite sure that the SUV segment competition in India is getting stronger among the available options like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, etc.
