MediaTek Dimensity 8250 SoC launched: First Device to feature chipset confirmed

MediaTek introduced the new Dimensity 9300+ Chipset during the MediaTek Developer’s Conference 2024 a few days ago. Alongside the flagship Dimensity 9300+, the chipmaker has also launched a toned-down version of Dimensity 8300 SoC, the MediaTek Dimensity 8250 chipset for the mid-premium range segment devices. This one’s a 5 G-enabled SoC based on TSMCS’s 4nm architecture featuring a dedicated APU for faster AI-related tasks on smartphones.

The new Dimensity 8250 chipset is an octa-core SoC with a max clock speed of 3.1 GHz. The processor comes with a single Cortex-A78 core, three Cortex-A78 cores that have a lower clock speed, and four Cortex-A55 cores. There is 4MB of L3 cache.

The new Dimensity 8250 chipset can support a primary camera up to 320MP and also handle triple rear cameras along with capturing videos at 4K 60fps in HDR. The Chipset is capable of WQHD+ displays at 120Hz and FHD+ displays at 180Hz.

The SoC is powered by Mali G610 LC6 GPU along with LPDDR5 RAM up to 6400Mbps speeds and UFS 3.1 storage compatibility. There is also MediaTek APU 580 for AI processing. The chipset has a fully integrated 5G modem supporting SA, NSA, and 3CCC sub-6GHz networks. It offers max download speeds of up to 4.7Gbps and other connectivity features include WiFi 6E, 2×2 MIMO, and Bluetooth 5.3.

The MediaTek Dimensity 8250 chipset is India’s first-ever NavIC navigation satellite that is compatible with GPS, BeiDou, Glonass, Galileo and QZSS navigation systems.

The upcoming Oppo Reno 12 5G is expected to be the first smartphone to be powered by Dimensity 8250 chipset. It will be a part of the Reno 12 Series and launch in China first followed by other countries. Oppo hasn’t confirmed any details, but the series has been spotted on various certification websites which makes the launch imminent. The device featuring Dimensity 8250 chipset will most likely be priced at around 30,000 INR and after Oppo, many other leading brands will start using this SoC for their mid-premium devices.

The Oppo Reno 12 Series is expected to include the Oppo Reno 12 5G, Oppo Reno 12 Pro 5G, and Oppo 12 Pro+ 5G. It is rumored to launch in China in the last week of May 2024.
