One of the largest chipmakers MediaTek announced two new chipsets earlier today. Dubbed Dimensity 7300 and Dimensity 7300X, these chipsets are successors to Dimensity 7050 SoC. Both have an octa-core architecture with the D7300X capable of supporting dual displays and foldable phones. Let’s take a deeper dive to understand the latest offerings.
MediaTek Dimensity 7300 and 7300X SoC Specifications
Both the chipsets are fabbed on a 4nm process and are identical except for the display support. Both the chipsets have an octa-core CPU architecture including 4x ARM Cortex-A78 cores clocked at 2.5GHz plus 4x ARM Cortex-A55 cores. ARM Mali-G615 GPU handles the graphics processing onboard and is equipped with a suite of MediaTek HyperEngine optimizations. Overall, the GPU can achieve 20% improved energy efficiency and 20% faster FPS on the go.

Dimensity 7300 chips are capable of handling AI features smartly. No wonder these chipsets are being marketed as AI chipsets as they can be used for various AI use cases on smartphones. The chipsets support LPDDR5 and LPDDR4x up to 6,400Mbps. Additionally, it supports 2G to 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth v5.4, GPS, and a host of GPS systems.

Moving further, both the chipsets support MediaTek Imagiq 950 with up to 200MP main cam and 12-bit HDR-ISP. When it comes to display support, Dimensity 7300 can handle WFHD+ at 120Hz and FHD+ at 144Hz while Dimensity 7300X can handle dual display on top of up to FHD+ @144Hz refresh rate. This is probably the only major distinction between the two making 7300X apt for dual displays such as foldable and flipable phones.
When compared to DImensity 7050, both Dimensity 7300 series chipsets are fabbed on a 4nm node, faster storage systems (at UFS 3.1), and a 6th-gen APU 655 for AI features and beyond.
