For years, MIUI fans wished for an app drawer and Xiaomi has finally listened to the appeal. The company is reportedly testing app drawer implementation in the MIUI launcher. Besides an app drawer, the launcher application could soon get app shortcuts feature.

While scraping through the latest build version 4.10.6.1025-06141703, users have identified the new feature. Currently, this is an alpha build and is yet to hit the devices. Since it’s in alpha stage, there would be bugs and stability issues. Moreover, the current version is available in the Chinese language. Hence, we would caution you against downloading it.

However, once you receive a stable update, you could follow the steps given below.

  • First of all, you must activate the option from the MIUI launcher settings.
  • There would be an icon in the dock, which when tapped would open the app drawer. However, gesture-based navigation to the app drawer seems to be missing for now.
  • Similar to a few other launchers, here also the recently used apps are placed atop. Right below you have all apps listed in alphabetical order.
  • Up top, you’ll see a bottom-facing arrow. You could either tap on it or click on the back button to collapse the app drawer. Again, the swipe gesture to close it seems to be absent.

Till now, users had to wrap a third party launcher to use the barebone feature. So, yes app drawer in MIUI was long overdue. Meanwhile, another nifty addition would be app shortcuts, which is basically quick actions that pop up when you long press an app icon. This one had debuted with Android 7.0 Nougat. Nevertheless, both the features would expand an already feature-packed launcher.

On a different note, POCO launcher 2.0 arrives with custom app categories within the app drawer. You could add/remove apps as well as reorder, hide, or delete categories by going to POCO Launcher Settings>Manage app categories.
