Not Family Man, Mirzapur, or Sacred Games, This Web Series is the Most Watched Indian Show of 2023

The popularity of OTT content has been at an all-time high in the last few years as various OTT Giants keep coming up with a plethora of content that caters to every age group and personality. While 1000s of web series and movies stream on OTT Platforms every year, some selective ones become more popular than all others, In 2023 itself, one web series has left many popular shows behind in terms of viewership. Read on to know which series it is.

Most Watched Indian Web Series of 2023

Earlier in 2023, industry tracking agency Ormax Media released a list of the top 10 most-watched Indian web series based on the views received over a single season. While Ormax did not reveal what method they used the list was considered credible as the track record of Ormax has been good.

Surprisingly, leaving behind heavyweights like Mirzapur, Sacred Games, Family Man, Scam 1992, and many others, Shahid Kapoor starrer Farzi has topped the list to become the most-watched Indian show of 2023. Raj and DK’s Farzi had 37 million views when the list was made and now the views have surpassed 40 million. The show premiered on Amazon Prime Video in February 2022.

2nd on the list is Rudra: The Edge of Darkness with 35.2 million views and The Night Manager with 28.6 million views. While Ajay Devgn starrer Rudra released in March on Disney+Hotstar, the Night Manager starring Aditya Roy Kapoor streamed in February & June on Disney+Hotstar as well. British show Lucifer had 35 million views while Mirzapur and Panchayat had 32 million and 29.6 million views respectively.

Farzi is a crime thriller about counterfeit currency. It is about a disillusioned artist who fails to keep his grandfather’s printing press. He then decides to make counterfeit money with his best friend but is challenged by a gangster and a cop.

The show is confirmed to be back with a 2nd season.

The report by Ormax claims that theatrical releases on OTT outperformed originals launched on OTT platforms. The survey was done based on audience reaction and engagement around new OTT releases. Movies like Gadar 2, OMG 2, and Jawan got more buzz than OTT originals. Over 150 Hindi web shows and direct-to-OTT movies have been released since mid-November, claims Ormax.
