TL; DR
  • The next-generation Hyundai Creta will be manufactured in the company’s plant in Tamil Nadu.
  • Given that the government is getting stricter with diesel engines, it makes perfect sense for the Korean automaker to include a hybrid powertrain on its best-selling vehicle.
  • Regarding the 2027 Hyundai Creta’s design, the vehicle could borrow some elements from global models like Santa Fe, Palisade, or the Ioniq lineup.

While the Hyundai Creta got a facelift in 2024, the vehicle’s third generation is expected to come out sometime in 2027. The next-generation Hyundai Creta carries the codename “SX3.” It could be a reference to the popular SX variant of the compact SUV, with the ‘3’ signifying the third generation of the vehicle.

Hyundai Will Manufacture The Next-Gen Creta In Its Tamil Nadu Plant

Further, the next-generation Hyundai Creta will be manufactured in the company’s plant in Tamil Nadu. For those catching up, the plant is located in the Kancheepuram district of the state. According to reports from October 2024, the company was planning to invest Rs. 1,500 crores in the plant to modernize the assembly line and increase its efficiency.

2027 Hyundai Creta Powertrain Options

A report from Autocar India claims that Hyundai will retain the engine options for the third-generation Creta, which include a 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated petrol engine, a 1.5-liter turbo-petrol engine, and a 1.5-liter diesel engine. These engines should be paired with manual and automatic transmission options on the different trims.

However, the most interesting bit happens to be about the possibility of a strong hybrid powertrain for the third-generation Hyundai Creta, particularly with the naturally-aspirated petrol engine. Globally, the company offers hybrid powertrains with three vehicles: Santa Fe Hybrid, Tuscon Hybrid, and Kona Hybrid.

Further, the company is also working on another hybrid SUV called the Ni1i SUV, which will be placed between the Alcazar and the Tuscon. From what it looks like, the company could use the hybrid technology it already has on the existing models (or the upcoming model), optimize it according to the powertrain on the Creta, and equip the vehicle with it.

Maruti Suzuki Already Includes A Strong Hybrid Powertrain On The Grand Vitara

Currently, Maruti Suzuki includes smart and strong hybrid technology on some of its vehicles, like the Grand Vitara (a direct competitor of Hyundai’s Creta). Besides the naturally-aspirated petrol engine, the Grand Vitara comes with a small battery and an electric motor that increases the engine’s efficiency and, in turn, the mileage.

Given that the government is getting stricter with diesel engines, it makes perfect sense for the Korean automaker to include a hybrid powertrain on its best-selling vehicle.

Regarding the 2027 Hyundai Creta’s design, the vehicle could borrow some elements from global models like Santa Fe, Palisade, or the Ioniq lineup. Either way, the Creta should get sleeker, more minimal, and sharp with time (as that’s the general trend that currently prevails and should exist for a couple more years).

2027 Hyundai Creta Could Get Some New Features As Well

The vehicle currently lacks some features like rear ventilated seats, cornering lights, larger infotainment screens, and more. Hence, the upcoming Creta could include these features. Will the company replace the steering in the ICE version with the one it introduced in the electric version? Time will tell.
