TL; DR
  • Nothing OS 4.0 has been teased officially.
  • Based on Android 16, Nothing OS 4.0 is expected to bring a clean UI, better notifications, and more AI features.
  • Beta is expected to start late September, beginning with Nothing Phone 3.

Nothing has officially teased Nothing OS 4.0, calling it “Refined. Redefined.” in a post on X (formerly Twitter), paired with a short video showing some icons. This is the next big update for Nothing’s custom Android skin, and it will be built on Android 16.

The timing lines up with what Carl Pei revealed during the Phone (3) launch in July 2025, as OS 4.0 was promised as a major upgrade. Beta is expected to begin by late September and continue through December.

Nothing OS 4.0 Beta Rollout and Supported Devices

The rollout is expected to begin with the Nothing Phone (3) and later expand to the Phone (3a) Pro, Phone (3a), Phone (2a) Plus, Phone (2a), CMF Phone 2 Pro and CMF Phone 1. The original Phone (1) will not be receiving the update, unfortunately. Expect full release notes and open beta details from Nothing’s channels as the launch gets closer.
