Back in March, shortly after the Phone (3a) series debut, Nothing kickstarted a crowdsourced experiment: the Phone (3a) Community Edition project. The goal was to invite creators, developers, and fans to co-design a special variant of the device from the ground up. Nine months later, the results are in.

Nothing has confirmed the Phone (3a) Community Edition will officially launch globally on December 9, 2025, at 13:00 GMT (6:30 PM IST). The announcement was accompanied by a teaser on X packed with the brand’s signature quirky visuals and easter eggs.

A vibrant makeover

While the final retail unit hasn’t been fully unboxed, Nothing has strongly hinted that this will be the most expressive hardware it has ever produced.

The winning hardware concept, created by Emre Kayganacı, is almost certainly the blueprint for the final device. Titled “Translucent Memories,” Kayganacı’s design swaps the standard monochrome look for a striking turquoise transparent back, accented by yellow volume buttons and a pink Essential Key.

It is a bold departure from Nothing’s usual industrial minimalism. In a clever nod to the design’s color palette, Nothing’s recent teasers featured a “Shiny” version of the Pokémon Arcanine, a rare variant that mirrors the exact turquoise and yellow hues of Emre’s concept.

What to expect at launch

Nothing has kept specific availability details under wraps, particularly regarding stock levels for India. However, if the rollout mirrors last year’s Phone (2a) Community Edition, we should expect a strictly limited-edition release aimed squarely at collectors and enthusiasts.

We will know for sure on December 9, when Nothing finally reveals what happens when a tech company lets its fans take the wheel.
