The OnePlus 13 is set to launch on January 7th in India, and expectations are running high. Historically, OnePlus has had great hardware but struggled with camera performance, which often disappointed users. However, this year, things look promising. We’ve seen some comparisons of the OnePlus 13 against the OPPO Find X8 Pro (review), and the results are quite surprising.

Given that OnePlus is now part of OPPO, the camera hardware on the OnePlus 13 shares many similarities with the OPPO Find X8 Pro. The only difference is the absence of the additional 6x lens found on the latter. Recently launched in China, the OnePlus 13 has the following camera setup, which mirror those of the Find X8 Pro (minus the 6x lens):

  • 50 MP Sony LYT-808: 1/1.4” sensor, f/1.6, OIS, 23mm, PDAF, Laser AF, 4K30 & 4K60 HDR Dolby Vision
  • 50 MP Samsung ISOCELL JN5: 1/2.76” sensor, f/2.0, 15mm, 120°, PDAF, 4K30 & 4K60 HDR Dolby Vision
  • 50 MP Sony LYT-600: 1/1.95” sensor, f/2.65, 3x optical zoom, 73mm, OIS, PDAF, 4K30 & 4K60 HDR Dolby Vision
  • 32 MP Sony IMX615: 1/2.74” sensor, f/2.4, 21mm, FF, 4K30 & 4K60 HDR Dolby Vision

The hardware is the same, but what about the processing?

Well… OnePlus does share the same HyperTone 2.0 image processing as the OPPO Find X8 Pro. And even in the real-world, the performance of both devices is neck-to-neck. Sure, the OPPO Find X8 Pro’s 6x telephoto lens provides an edge in extreme zoom scenarios, but in most other areas, both phones deliver nearly identical image quality.

Whether it be the main camera, the selfies, the portraits, the ultra-wide, or any other mode. OnePlus even has the same fast shutter algorithm as the OPPO Find X8 Pro. It even has XPAN, Film Mode, and the Hasselblad focal lengths.

The conclusion

The OnePlus 13’s camera hardware is a near mirror image of the OPPO Find X8 Pro’s, save for the 6x lens. While it doesn’t match the zoom quality of its sibling (6x and beyond), it still seems to provide a solid camera experience. This similarity may signal a shift in OnePlus’s camera game, giving users a taste of flagship photography without the premium price tag.

Sure, the processing might be a bit different on the Indian unit of the OnePlus 13 but we’re not expecting any drastic changes. Still, the OnePlus 13’s camera processing is a huge improvement over the OnePlus 12 (review). The device will be launching in India on January 7th, at 9:00 PM.
