TL;DR

  • The primary camera on the smartphone will be a 50MP (f/.6, OIS) Sony LYT-808 sensor, with a size of 1/1/95-inch.
  • The smartphone will come with a feature called Master Mode, which will preserve the natural contrast of the scene by incorporating Hasselblad’s signature color science.
  • The OnePlus 13 is adopting the same image processing technology as the Find X8 series.

The OnePlus 13 will debut in China on October 31, 2024. Ahead of the launch, the company has already confirmed the camera specifications of the smartphone. The OnePlus 13 will feature a triple Hasselblad-branded camera setup. While the primary camera appears to be the same as the OnePlus 12, the periscope zoom sensor and ultrawide sensors are getting an upgrade (sort of).

OnePlus 13 To Retain The 50MP Primary Camera

Through posts on the Chinese microblogging platform Weibo, OnePlus has confirmed details about OnePlus 13’s camera system. The primary camera on the smartphone will be a 50MP (f/.6, OIS) Sony LYT-808 sensor, with a size of 1/1/95-inch.

The Periscope Lens Is Getting Demoted To A 50MP Sensor

The OnePlus 12 featured a 64MP OV64B 3x periscope camera, but the OnePlus 13 will replace it with a 50MP (f/2.6, OIS) Sony LYT-600 3x periscope camera. Whether this will result in a noticeable downgrade in image quality, especially when going beyond the optical zoom range, is something we’re interested in finding out.

The third camera on the OnePlus 13 will be a 50MP ultrawide sensor with a 120-degree field-of-view. This particular camera is said to use the Samsung JN5 sensor. In addition, the smartphone will come with a feature called Master Mode, which will preserve the natural contrast of the scene by incorporating Hasselblad’s signature color science.

OnePlus 13 To Use Oppo Find X8’s Image Processing Algorithm

To improve the camera performance, the company has introduced the “multi-prism reflection structure.” It increases the periscope sensor’s focussing speed. Buyers should also expect to see better image clarity. Interestingly, OnePlus has specified that the technology is similar to that of the iPhone Pro models.

The OnePlus 13 is adopting the same image processing technology as the Find X8 series, which, at the moment, is Oppo’s best, most refined camera smartphone. Hence, the OnePlus 13 will offer an upgraded snapshot experience. Given that OnePlus and Oppo are sister companies, it is natural that they are sharing their camera technology.
