TL; DR
  • The OnePlus 15 measures 161.4 x 76.7 x 8.1 mm, which is 162.9 x 76.5 x 8.5 mm or 8.9 mm, making the new phone thinner than its predecessor. The new phone weighs 210 or 215 grams, which is awfully similar to the OnePlus 13.
  • First things first, the OnePlus 15 features a 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED screen that supports a maximum refresh rate of 165Hz and a peak global brightness of 1,800 nits.
  • Under the hood, the handset runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, which is faster than the Snapdragon 8 Elite on the OnePlus 13 (both CPU and GPU).
  • Powering the OnePlus 15 is a 7,300 mAh Si/C battery that supports 120W and 50W wireless charging.

The OnePlus 15 is now official in China with several key upgrades, including the screen, the chipset, and the massive 7,300 mAh battery, but there are two key areas where it seems to be falling short compared to the OnePlus 13 (review). Since they’re pretty easy to miss, here’s a quick overview of all of them, including the design, key specifications, and price.

OnePlus 15 Design

The OnePlus 15 measures 161.4 x 76.7 x 8.1 mm, which is 162.9 x 76.5 x 8.5 mm or 8.9 mm, making the new phone thinner than its predecessor. The new phone weighs 210 or 215 grams, which is awfully similar to the OnePlus 13.

On the front, the phone includes Gorilla Glass protection, an aluminum alloy frame, and a Crystal Shield Glass. This time, OnePlus has equipped its phone with an IP68 and IP69K dust and water resistance rating (up from IP68/IP69).

OnePlus 15 Key Specifications & Features

Screen

First things first, the OnePlus 15 features a 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED screen that supports a maximum refresh rate of 165Hz and a peak global brightness of 1,800 nits. However, to achieve a smoother screen, the company has reduced the display size (down from 6.82-inch) and settled for a lower-resolution panel (510 ppi vs. 450 ppi). The panel also supports high-dynamic-range formats such as Dolby Vision and HDR10+.

For those catching up, the OnePlus 13 features a 6.82-inch LTPO AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and a local peak brightness of 4,500 nits.

Chipset

snapdragon 8 elite 5

Under the hood, the handset runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, which is faster than the Snapdragon 8 Elite on the OnePlus 13 (both CPU and GPU). Interestingly, the previous-generation flagship features up to 24GB of RAM and 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage, while the latest-generation model maxes out at 16GB of RAM (though with UFS 4.1 storage).

Operating System

Out of the box, the OnePlus 15 runs OxygenOS 16 based on Android 16, and although the company doesn’t specify, it should receive at least 4 years of Android updates and 6 years of security updates, similar to the OnePlus 13.

Cameras

Regarding optics, the OnePlus 15 no longer features the Hasselblad branding. The handset still comes with Oppo’s Lumo imaging engine, which could be marketed with a different name globally. However, the removal of the Hasselblad branding seems to have downgraded the camera sensors on the flagship.

  • Primary camera: 50MP (f/1.8, 1/1.56″, OIS) vs. 50MP (f/1.6, 1/1.43″, OIS)
  • Zoom camera: 50MP (f/2.8, 1/2.76″, 3.5x optical zoom) vs. 50MP (f/2.6, 1/1.95″, 3x optical zoom)
  • Ultrawide camera: 50MP (f/2.0, 1/2.88″, 116°) vs. 50MP (f/2.0, 1/2.75″, 120°)
  • Selfie camera: 32MP (f/2.4, 1/2.74″) vs.32MP (f/2.4, 1/2.74″)

I’ve sourced these specifications from GSMArena, and I can clearly see some patterns here. Whether it is the primary, zoom, or ultrawide camera, all of them use a smaller sensor, especially the primary and zoom cameras. The apertures of the primary and zoom cameras are also smaller than those on the OnePlus 13.

Both factors — a smaller sensor or a smaller aperture — result in poorer performance in low-light conditions. Unless OnePlus pulls out some neat computational photography tricks from under the sleeve, users might notice the degradation in the picture quality. Stay tuned for more details about the smartphone’s cameras.

Other features include 8K video recording at 30 fps, 4K video recording at 60 fps from all the cameras, and Dolby Vision video recording.

Battery

Powering the OnePlus 15 is a 7,300 mAh Si/C battery that supports 120W and 50W wireless charging. The battery is about 18% larger than the 6,000 mAh Si/C battery that supports 100W wired and 50W wireless charging. In the real world, the phone should have around 15-20% additional battery life when the OnePlus 13 runs out, benefiting both regular and power users.

Connectivity

Connectivity features on the OnePlus 15 include 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth v6.0 (v5.4), dual-band GPS (L1 + L5), NFC, IR Blaster, and a USB Type-C 3.2 port.
