TL; DR
- The OnePlus 15R gets a major front camera upgrade with a 32 MP selfie sensor, autofocus, and 4K video support.
- The main camera is a 50 MP Sony IMX906 sensor with 24mm focal length and the UW is an 8 MP Sony IMX355 sensor.
- The OnePlus 15R will launch on December 17 in India with Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, a 1.5K 165 Hz display, and a 7,400 mAh battery.
OnePlus is changing its usual upgrade strategy with the OnePlus 15R, and the biggest signal comes from the front camera. The phone now uses a 32 MP selfie camera with autofocus, a massive step up from the older 16 MP fixed focus unit. This also brings 4K video recording from the front camera, something that was missing earlier.
For a device in this segment, this is not a small improvement. It directly affects video calls, social media, and vlogging, which arguably matters more to most users than a basic 2X telephoto without OIS present on the OnePlus 13R.

This does not mean removing a telephoto is automatically the right move, but prioritizing the selfie camera over a limited zoom lens makes practical sense. OnePlus could have kept the telephoto unchanged and ignored the front camera again. Instead, it chose to upgrade the camera that people actually use every day.
On the rear, the OnePlus 15R uses the same main camera as the OnePlus 15. This includes a 50 MP Sony IMX906 (or LYT700) with an f/1.8 aperture and a 24 mm focal length. The ultra wide camera remains an 8 MP IMX355 with a 1/4-inch sensor and an f/2.2 aperture.

While the hardware stays familiar, OnePlus says it’s bringing its DetailMax engine from the OnePlus 15, along with features like Ultra Clear Mode, Clear Burst, and Clear Night processing. The phone also supports 4K 120 FPS video from the main camera.

The OnePlus 15R will be the first phone in India to launch with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset. It also includes the OnePlus G2 Wi Fi chip and a dedicated touch response chip, aiming for better connectivity and faster touch input. Powering everything is a 7,400 mAh battery, the largest battery OnePlus has shipped in an India bound phone so far.

The display matches the OnePlus 15, with a 1.5K AMOLED panel and a 165 Hz refresh rate. In terms of design, the phone will be available in Mint Green, Charcoal Black, and Electric Purple. The purple variant carries Ace branding on the back.
The OnePlus 15R will launch on December 17 at 7 PM in Bengaluru. OnePlus is hosting a live event, and tickets are available via BookMyShow. Attendees get benefits worth ₹7,000, including official merchandise.
