OnePlus in partnership with Qualcomm and EE has cut the ribbon for the “5G Apps of Tomorrow” programme. This invites the developers to create and cultivate next great apps for 5G. Heads of the three tech giants shared their vision and mission towards 5G rollout. Speaking of which, 5G smartphones will go through three stages of development: 5G 1.0, 5G 2.0 and 5G 3.0. So, we would witness the first iteration for the coming three to five years.

5G Apps of Tomorrow: Motto

With heavy investment and R&D going to the hardware, OnePlus feels there has been a blind eye to the app development. The trio would contribute resources and expertise to the talented developers, who would work in tandem to design future 5G apps. So, this new initiative would pave way for the developers to brainstorm and bring better user experience to its customers both on hardware and software.

If you like to participate, the window is open from today at OnePlus.com/5G and closing on 26th March.  The winners will be evaluated by a panel including the CEOs of OnePlus and EE, and executives from Qualcomm Technologies, and a community vote.

Those of you who get shortlisted, and gets into the Top 5 creators, will then receive:
  • A paid-for trip to OnePlus HQ in Shenzhen to discuss their idea with Pete Lau
  • A OnePlus 5G device
  • Access to 5G experts via the OnePlus forums
  • Access to EE’s test environment
  • Financial support for one year

If you’re a professional developer or just getting started, this is a unique opportunity to showcase your mettle and be part of a community which has the developer DNA embedded.

Oneplus has recently showcased its 5G prototype at MWC 2019. The next-gen OnePlus could be a notch-less 21:9 full display smartphone. It might go with a slider mechanism or pop-up camera route. Under the hood, the device would be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset with X50 modem. Yeah, featuring 5G could be a no-brainer.

It could bump up the battery to facilitate the 5G’s power consumption. And could be compatible with 30W warp charging. But, don’t raise your hopes for wireless charging.
