OnePlus Nord 5 Roundup: Table Of Contents

The Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus is gearing up to unveil the rightful successor of its successful Nord lineup: the Nord 5. It’s going to be an important handset for the brand, as it will target one of the highest-selling, mid-range segments of the Indian market, where competition is high.

The OnePlus Nord 4 was one of the better mid-range handsets when it launched in July 2024. Its baseline variant, with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, was priced under Rs. 30,000, offering a balance between affordability and features.

The Nord 5 is expected to follow the same formula, but this time, buyers will get a definite performance upgrade, as it is the first handset to feature a Snapdragon 8 series chip. Here’s everything we know about the upcoming mid-range handset, scheduled for release in July 2025, including its design, display, performance, battery capacity, and every other key detail.

OnePlus Nord 5 Roundup: Release Date

OnePlus will unveil the Nord 5 in India on July 8, 2025, at 2 PM IST, during its Summer Launch event. We’ll also see the Nord CE 5 and the Buds 4 at the event.

OnePlus Nord 5 Roundup: Price (Expected)

The OnePlus Nord 4 (review) came out at Rs. 29,999 for the base variant with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. However, the phone featured a Snapdragon 7 series chipset, which costs less than the Snapdragon 8 series. Hence, we expect the phone’s price to increase.

We believe that the OnePlus Nord 5 could cost around Rs. 30,000 to 32,000 for the base variant. More details about the price should surface sometime before the launch.

OnePlus Nord 5 Roundup: Design

  • Dimensions: 163.41 x 77.04 x 8.1 mm
  • Weight: 211 grams
  • Ingress Protection: IP65

In teasers shared by the brand on its official website, the OnePlus Nord 5 is seen with a minimalist design. While one colorway of the phone features a marble-like back finish, a vertical, pill-shaped camera module is positioned on the back, along with the company’s mascot.

Given that the Nord 4 has a metallic frame, there’s a high chance that the Nord 5 will also sport a metallic design (for a premium in-hand feel). The bottom frame of the phone features the SIM tray, primary microphone, a USB-C port, and the primary speaker grill.

The phone could arrive in India in a couple of colorways: Dry Ice, Marble Sands, and Phantom Gray. Last but not least, it is said to come with an IP65 dust and water resistance rating.

OnePlus Nord 5 Roundup: Display

Nord 5 display

According to a recent report by Android Headlines, the OnePlus Nord 5 is expected to feature a 6.83-inch FHD+ AMOLED screen, which most likely supports a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. If the report is anything to go by, the Nord 5 will sport a bigger display than the Nord 4. Rumors also add that it will be a flat display.

The Chinese version of the Nord 5 — the OnePlus Ace 5 Ultra — features a 6.83-inch AMOLED screen that supports a 144Hz refresh rate, 3,840Hz PWM dimming, and a peak brightness of 1,400 nits. It also supports high-dynamic range formats, such as HDR10+ and Dolby Vision.

These specifications are for reference, and the Indian Nord 5 might not borrow all of them.

OnePlus Nord 5 Roundup: Performance

Snapdragon 8s Gen 3

OnePlus India has confirmed that the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 (4nm) will be the chipset of choice for its upcoming mid-range device. Although it seems like an odd decision, given that the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 (4nm) is already available and offers a significant performance boost over its predecessor, OnePlus might have opted for the 8s Gen 3 in order to keep the handset’s cost under control.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 is an octa-core processor comprising a 3.0GHz Cortex-X4 prime core, four 2.8GHz Cortex-A720 performance cores, and three 2.0GHz Cortex-A520 efficient cores (following a 1+4+3 core architecture).

Besides, the chipset features the Adreno 735 GPU, which provides hardware-accelerated ray tracing, Adreno Frame Motion Engine 2.0 (for improving frame rate), and Snapdragon Game Super Resolution.

For those wondering, the processor scores around 1.48 million points in the AnTuTu 10 and 2,000/5,500 points in the single/multi-core GeekBench 6 CPU benchmarks. Moreover, these numbers suggest a smooth day-to-day performance and enough peak performance for multitasking, casual gaming, or capturing high-resolution (4K) videos.

In India, the Nord 5 could come in two memory/storage variants: 8GB + 128GB, 8GB + 256GB, and 12GB + 512GB. While OnePlus has confirmed the presence of LPDDR5X RAM on the handset, there’s no word on the type of storage (yet). The chipset, however, supports up to UFS 4.0 storage.

OnePlus Nord 5 Roundup: Operating System

According to a recent benchmark listing, the OnePlus Nord 5 could run on OxygenOS 15 based on Android 15. The custom user interface features a revamped Control Center, a Dynamic Island-like notification system, enhanced lock screen customization, and additional enhancements.

With the Nord 4, OnePlus promised to provide four major operating system updates and six years of security updates. Although that’s quite good in isolation, the software support runs behind what Samsung offers with its mid-range smartphones. To that end, the proposed Nord 5 should either match or improve upon the Nord 4’s software support policy.

OnePlus Nord 5 Roundup: Cameras

The Chinese smartphone manufacturer has confirmed that the Nord 5 will feature a dual-rear camera setup. First, the phone will feature a 50MP Sony LYT-700 primary sensor with optical image stabilization (announced), along with an 8MP ultrawide sensor (rumored).

On the front, the handset will house a 50MP Samsung JN5 selfie shooter with autofocus. While the rear-facing cameras are similar to those on the Nord 4, the 50MP front camera is a significant upgrade from the 16MP (f/2.4) sensor on the predecessor.

In theory, both the front and the rear cameras should support 4K60 video recording (with optical image stabilization). However, it remains to be seen whether OnePlus enables high-resolution recording.

OnePlus Nord 5 Roundup: Battery

While other aspects of the Nord 5 sound promising, there’s one that doesn’t: battery life. The upcoming mid-ranger from OnePlus is rumored to sport a 5,200 mAh battery (and not one with a silicon-carbon anode). Furthermore, the cell could support 80W wired charging (via Android Headlines).

In terms of capacity and charging rate, the OnePlus Nord 5 could, in fact, be a downgrade. For the uninitiated, the OnePlus Nord 4 supports a 5,500 mAh battery that supports 100W wired charging. While the latest rumors don’t contradict the charging rate, they do suggest a larger battery, probably a 6,800 mAh cell.

OnePlus Nord 5 Roundup: Rivals

The Nord 5 will rival models like the Poco F7 (Rs. 31,999 for the 256GB variant), the Moto Edge 60 Pro (Rs. 31,490 for the 256GB variant), the iQOO Neo 10 (Rs. 31,998 for the 128GB variant), and the Xiaomi 14 Civi (Rs. 30,999 for the 256GB variant).

As I mentioned in the performance section, most of the Nord 5’s rivals feature the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 (4nm) chipset, which offers a more capable CPU and GPU. Take the Poco F7 as an example, which also features a 7,550 mAh battery that supports 90W wired charging. The iQOO Neo 10 also features a 7,000 mAh battery that supports 120W fast charging.
