Qualcomm partners with Google for an AI cockpit on Renault’s upcoming electric car

World’s largest chipmaker Qualcomm is collaborating with Google and Renault Group to produce an advanced infotainment system for a new electric vehicle of Renault. The electric car is named Renault Mégane E-TECH Electric. It has been introduced at the IAA Mobility 2021 event in Munich on September 6. 

What is the 3rd Generation Snapdragon Automotive Cockpit Platform?

The 3rd Gen Snapdragon Automotive Cockpit SoC is Qualcomm‘s AI-based solution that will enable next-generation vehicles to provide advanced driver-assist features and experiences. With its ability to support higher levels of computing intelligence, Renault is looking to develop truly immersive driving experiences in its Mégane E-TECH Electric.

Renault has confirmed to employ Qualcomm’s 3rd Generation Snapdragon Automotive Cockpit Platform. The new chipset of Qualcomm will technically empower in-vehicle audio, visual, and navigational functions for immersive controls. Mégane E-Tech Electric’s new infotainment system is designed to provide a unique and stylish experience to its consumers.

Role of Qualcomm and Google in Renault Mégane E-TECH Electric

Renault has included a portrait-sized touchscreen display powered by the new Qualcomm processor and Android Automotive Operating System (AAOS) in its announced electric car. The OS part is taken care of by Google providing intelligent infotainment and in-vehicle customer applications. It will include major Google services like Google Assistant voice support, Google Maps, and Google PlayStore.

With this, the Mégane E-Tech Electric drivers can keep them updated with all the latest digital trends in an even more personalized manner.

Qualcomm has been working to improve infotainment and in-car connectivity services. The company has orders of its integrated automotive cockpit platforms and Snapdragon Digital Chassis worth more than $10 billion. Nakul Duggal, senior vice president & GM, automotive, Qualcomm Technologies, said, “We look forward to extending our long-term relationships with industry leaders like Google and Renault Group to reimagine and redesign the overall experience for drivers and passengers within this new digital age.”
