Realme unveiled their 64MP quad-camera tech at an event in Delhi, India. It pictures an ‘Imaging Leap’ with this introduction. Only the other day, Xiaomi revealed its 64MP camera which will come inside a Redmi phone in Quarter 4 of 2019. Realme CEO claims to outdo the competition and be the first one to bring their 64MP camera phone before Diwali.

If you’re wondering, yes! Realme is also employing Samsung’s ISOCELL GW1 sensor.

But, why is Realme using Samsung 64MP GW1 sensor?

Samsung 64MP GW1 sensor benefits

Samsung GW1 64MP sensor

Samsung 64MP GW1 sensor is 1/1.7-inch in size with 1.6-micron pixels. This along with ISOCELL Plus and Tetracell technologies help in capturing more light.

The ISOCELL Plus isolates neighboring pixels and channels light properly on to the sensor. This results in better color fidelity, and tack-sharp images with greater dynamic range.

The Tetracell is just another name for pixel binning tech, which you might’ve heard already. It places pixels with identical color filter next to each other in groups of four. The innate algorithm combines the four pixels into one larger pixel. The larger pixel captures more light improving the quality, especially during low-light and HDR in high contrast conditions.

So, this means the Realme 64MP phone might produce 16MP images under low-lit situations and the full 64MP res images in favorable lighting. The brand claims its phone will support up to 100-decibels (dB)

Further, the Samsung 64MP GW1 sensor utilizes Dual Conversion Gains (DCG) Technology. DCG uses low ISO in bright areas and pushes up ISO in underexposed areas of a scene. This Smart ISO application results in a better signal-to-noise ratio in low light photography.

Besides lower noise and better color accuracy, the new sensor claims to be better at phase-detection autofocus technology. As for video recording, you could capture full HD clips at 480 frames per second (fps).

At the launch, Dr. Manish Goel, Principal Engineer, SSIR System LSI Business, Samsung India, said, “As a young brand that makes it a point to consistently ‘Dare to Leap’, realme has become one of the top players in the global smartphone industry on the back of its consumer-centric approach and focus on innovation. This value proposition aligns with Samsung’s vision as a leading semiconductor solutions company. We are delighted to partner with realme for their new product launch and look forward to leveraging our combined synergies to further elevate the level of innovation in the industry.”

Mr. Madhav Sheth seems unmoved by Xiaomi’s proclamation of a 108MP camera phone. “There’s a difference between launching on PPT and launching in real life,” reports ET.

“I’m able to bring the world’s first 64MP camera phone to India so that Indian consumers can enjoy the technology before anybody else in the world. It’s a proud moment for me,” Sheth to IANS.
