Quick Verdict
The realme Watch S5 gets most of the hardware right for the price. You are getting a 1.43-inch AMOLED display with 60 Hz refresh rate, built-in GPS with 5 GNSS support, Bluetooth calling, 5 ATM water resistance, and a 460 mAh battery that can comfortably last close to a week even with AOD enabled.
The watch itself also looks good, especially in the Sand White variant, and the lightweight aluminum alloy body makes it comfortable enough for all-day wear. The bigger issue is the software experience. The realme Link app is inconsistent, syncing reliability is poor, watch face customization is limited, and notification handling still feels underdeveloped for a smartwatch priced around ₹8,000.
Buy it if:

- You mainly care about step tracking and basic health features
- You want a lightweight smartwatch with AMOLED display
Skip it if:
- You want polished software

The realme Watch S5 is realme’s latest smartwatch in the ₹8,000 segment, bringing features like a 1.43-inch AMOLED display, built-in GPS with 5 GNSS support, Bluetooth calling, and up to 20 days claimed battery life. It also comes with a rotating crown, 5 ATM water resistance, and support for over 110 workout modes.
The watch runs on RTOS instead of Wear OS and connects through the realme Link app on both Android and iOS devices. realme is also focusing heavily on features like Smart Night Vision, AI assistant support, sleep tracking, ambient noise monitoring, and onboard music storage with the Watch S5.
I have been using the Sand White variant for a while now alongside an iPhone, testing its battery life, notifications, workout tracking, Bluetooth calling, connectivity stability, and overall software experience. Here’s my full review of the realme Watch S5.

realme Watch S5 Review: Design and Build

The realme Watch S5 uses a circular watch design with a single rotating crown with two additional buttons. The body is made out of aluminum alloy while the front uses Panda Glass protection.
The Sand White version especially stands out because of the ceramic-style finish around the frame along with the white decorative bezel surrounding the display. The black variant gets a matching darker bezel which probably hides scratches better over time.

At 49.63 g including the strap, the watch stays fairly comfortable throughout the day and even during sleep tracking. The watch itself weighs around 33 grams while the straps weigh around 17 grams.
The included silica gel straps use a standard 22 mm mechanism, so replacing them with third-party straps is easy enough. The stock straps themselves are slightly wider than what I personally prefer, and removing or attaching them is more annoying than it should be.

The actual display bezels are reasonably thin once the UI turns black, although the outer decorative white ring is far more noticeable in person. However, the outer ring scratches quite easily, and after a few accidental bumps, there were already visible marks on the glass. I would have preferred an aluminum outer ring with only the display section covered in glass.
The rotating crown gives haptic feedback and works properly while scrolling through lists or menus inside certain apps. Though you cannot properly navigate between tiles or quick settings using the crown, which makes the implementation feel unfinished.

The watch supports 5 ATM water resistance, and it has handled showers, hand washing, and casual swimming without issues during testing. realme does not mention any IP rating separately.
realme Watch S5 Review: Display

The Watch S5 uses a 1.43-inch AMOLED panel with a 466 x 466 resolution and roughly 302 PPI pixel density. realme also claims a 60 Hz refresh rate here, and that higher refresh rate is definitely noticeable while scrolling through menus and animations.
Brightness is one of the stronger parts of this display. realme advertises 1500 nits peak brightness, while typical brightness numbers are lower depending on usage conditions.
Outdoors visibility is still very good, and auto brightness adjustment works reliably enough. You also get five manual brightness levels along with scheduled always-on display support.

Viewing angles are also good with no major color shifting issues. Smart Night Vision is included as well, which automatically switches the watch face into a red theme during nighttime usage.
Watch face handling is where things start becoming frustrating. There are roughly 100 watch faces available through the realme Link app, though most of them barely support customization.

In most cases, you can only change the color accents while complications remain fixed. You cannot properly customize layouts or add additional widgets like you can on Galaxy Watches or even several cheaper smartwatches now.
The syncing process itself is also slow. Opening the watch face gallery takes time to refresh, downloading new faces is sluggish, and applying a watch face can take around 4 to 5 seconds every single time. The watch only stores up to 12 watch faces locally.
realme Watch S5 Review: Notifications

Notification handling remains one of the weakest parts of this watch. You can receive notifications from apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, and other messaging apps, although there is barely any customization available for how notifications behave. You cannot properly configure notification priority or delivery behavior depending on whether the phone is in use.
You also cannot view images or even emojis inside notifications. Reply functionality is extremely limited as well. realme advertises smart voice reply support, although during testing it was difficult to trigger reliably.
Most of the time, the Watch S5 works more like a notification viewer instead of a fully interactive smartwatch notification system.
realme Watch S5 Review: Health & Fitness Tracking

The Watch S5 includes continuous heart rate monitoring, blood oxygen tracking, stress monitoring, sleep tracking, cycle tracking, and ambient noise detection.
Sleep tracking is actually one of the better parts of the health suite here. The watch can detect naps properly and provides sleep stage breakdowns including deep sleep, REM sleep, and resting heart rate during sleep sessions. The sleep tracking accuracy itself was reasonably close during testing.
Heart rate and SpO2 tracking are acceptable for casual usage, although readings can fluctuate occasionally during workouts. Step tracking accuracy is also inconsistent at times, especially indoors.
Ambient noise monitoring is a surprisingly useful addition. The watch can notify users when surrounding sound levels cross a preset threshold.
realme Watch S5 Review: Workout Detection

The Watch S5 supports over 110 workout modes along with auto workout detection for walking, running, elliptical workouts, and rowing machines.
GPS workout tracking works reasonably well outdoors, and metrics like pace, heart rate, and distance remain easy to read during activities. realme also includes running-focused features like pacing guidance, aerobic training effect tracking, metronome support, and running partner modes.
The overall workout accuracy is still average compared to dedicated fitness-focused wearables. Automatic workout detection also misses sessions occasionally, and heart rate readings during intense workouts are less reliable than what you would get from Samsung or Garmin wearables.
For casual activity tracking, the Watch S5 works fine. For serious fitness tracking, there are better options available.
realme Watch S5 Review: Watch Features

The Watch S5 runs RTOS and includes a fairly large number of features despite not using Wear OS. The UI itself remains smooth throughout most interactions thanks to the 60 Hz display, and there is very little stutter while opening apps or navigating menus.
You get features like:
- Bluetooth calling
- AI assistant shortcut (Gemini on Android)
- Camera shutter controls
- Music storage (around 200 MB)
- Calculator
- Compass
- Calendar
- Stopwatch and timers
- World clock
- Find my phone
- Find my watch
- Water ejection mode
- Breathing exercises
- Ambient noise alerts
- Event reminders
The quick settings panel is customizable, and you can rearrange several shortcuts. There are also button shortcut customizations available, although the number of assignable functions is very limited.
realme Watch S5 Review: Connectivity

The Watch S5 supports Android and iOS devices through the realme Link app and uses Bluetooth 5.3 for connectivity. GPS support is built in with 5 GNSS satellite systems, so outdoor workout tracking can work independently without needing the phone nearby.
The actual connectivity experience is inconsistent though. During testing, the watch disconnected multiple times randomly, and health data syncing occasionally stopped completely until reconnecting the watch manually.
Bluetooth calling itself works reasonably well. Call quality is usable indoors, and the microphone picks up voices clearly enough for short conversations. GPS performance is decent for casual fitness usage, although tracking precision still trails behind more fitness-focused wearables.
realme Watch S5 Review: Calling

Bluetooth calling support is included, and the watch lets you answer calls, reject calls, mute calls, adjust volume, and access recent call logs directly from the wrist.
Call quality itself is decent enough indoors. The speaker volume is loud enough for quieter environments, and the microphone performs acceptably for short calls.
However, the watch often only displays phone numbers instead of saved contact names, which becomes frustrating quickly and also creates privacy concerns while using the watch in public.
realme Watch S5 Review: Companion App

The realme Link app is easily the biggest weakness of the entire Watch S5 experience. The app feels unfinished, buggy, and poorly optimized. Syncing delays are common, health data randomly fails to load, and even simple things like refreshing the watch face gallery take too long.
The UI itself also lacks proper organization. Important health data is not consistently displayed properly on the homepage, and navigating through settings becomes unnecessarily confusing at times. There is no option to export/ sync your data with Apple Health or Google Heath either.
You also have to sign in using your realme account to set up the watch, and occasionally go through a bunch of ads too. This app alone significantly hurts the overall experience of using the Watch S5 daily.
realme Watch S5 Review: Battery Life and Charging

Battery life is probably the strongest practical advantage of the Watch S5. With continuous heart rate monitoring enabled, sleep tracking active, notifications turned on, and always-on display scheduled from morning till night, the watch consistently lasted around 5 to 6 days during testing.
With AOD disabled, battery life improves significantly. Realistically, most users should get close to 9 or 10 days without needing aggressive battery-saving settings.
The advertised 20-day battery figure is technically achievable, although it requires enabling Light Smart Mode which disabled almost every background health tracking feature, which, to be honest, defeats the purpose of buying this watch in the first place.
Charging happens through a proprietary magnetic charger connected via USB Type-C. The magnetic alignment itself is annoying because the connection isn’t really strong. I had a hard time trying to align the watch on the charging puck.
Charging speed is also fairly slow. A complete charge takes close to 3 hours.
Review Verdict: Should You Buy the realme Watch S5?
The realme Watch S5 has good hardware for the price. The AMOLED display is bright and smooth, the battery life is excellent, GPS support works independently, and the lightweight aluminum body stays comfortable for daily wear. The problem is that the software experience never reaches the same level as the hardware.
The realme Link app is unpolished, notification handling is basic, customization options are limited, and several smartwatch features still feel incomplete. Fitness tracking is decent enough for casual users, though accuracy-focused users have better alternatives available.
At around ₹8,000, the Watch S5 mainly makes sense for users who want a good-looking smartwatch with long battery life and basic health tracking. If proper software, notification handling, or accurate workout tracking matter more, older Galaxy Watches during discounts remain a much better buy in this segment.
