Things are set to heat up in smart TVs space. After Xiaomi’s success, smartphone makers like OnePlus and Honor are all set to venture into the smart TV segment. There is an outside possibility that Xiaomi’s recently separated Redmi brand could also soon launch its own Smart TVs, as is hinted by Redmi General Manager Lu Weibing seeking consumers opinion regarding TV launch on social media.

He enquired Redmi fans on Weibo while congratulating Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun on becoming the No. 1 TV brand in China in H1 2019. Although he didn’t clearly mention whether or not the band will come up with a tv line but social media that read as “Do you want us to make a Redmi TV?” this led to speculation that something is brewing at Redmi.

Since Redmi has been established as a separate brand it has launched several phones and first-ever Windows laptops under its banners. Xiaomi over the years launched affordable phones in Redmi Series while more flagship speed ones debuted under Mi branding.

Xiaomi could repeat the same model with Smart TV segment offering budget Smart TVs under Redmi. A Redmi TV makes even more sense in Indian context thanks to popularity of Xiaomi’s Redmi branded phones. With Redmi TVs Xiaomi will be able to appeal to buyers in tier two and tier three cities where peoples aspire to own LEDs TVs but have limited budget to spare.
