Due to declining sales, an aging design, and the high cost of updating the vehicle to meet the newer BS6 Phase 2 emission and safety norms, Renault discontinued the Duster from the Indian market in 2022. It has been over three years, and the Indian midsized SUV market has evolved to the point that even entry-level variants of models now feature a sunroof at customers’ demand.
Call it a numbers-backed decision or a bold move to re-enter the market when it’s changed extensively, Renault is bringing back its Duster to India.
Renault Duster Indian Launch Date Revealed
The new-generation Renault Duster will go official in the country on the coming Republic Day, i.e., January 26, 2026. While the vehicle has already been spotted during testing in the subcontinent a couple of times, the company will officially unveil the Duster next year.
It will help Renault with its International Game Plan 2027, which could include manufacturing the vehicle locally in India to keep costs under control and exporting it to other markets. It’s clear that Renault is trying to revive its Indian lineup, as the Duster is coming shortly after the Kiger and Triber facelifts.

New-Generation Renault Duster Powertrain Options

However, there’s a chance that this engine could power the higher trims, while the entry-level trims could rely on the turbo-petrol engine we’ve seen on the Kiger.

Duster To Face The Mid-Sized SUV Challenge
Ever since the Duster left the market, buyers have had access to a plethora of mid-sized SUVs, including the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. Even the sub-4 meter segment has heated up with the launch of the Mahindra 3XO, Skoda Kushaq, and the new-generation Venue.
Most recently, Tata also announced the launch date for its Sierra ICE, another mid-sized SUV about to enter the market later next month. Hence, Renault must be very cautious with pricing and the distribution of variant-wise features.
