Samsung hosted one of the biggest Unpacked Events to date last week on July 10th. During the event, Samsung launched Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Z Flip 6, Galaxy Watch Ultra, Galaxy Watch 7, Galaxy Buds 3, Galaxy Buds 3 Pro, and Galaxy Ring. However, the brand also tipped a new mixed reality headset that will rival Apple’s Vision Pro soon. Yes, you heard it right Samsung has confirmed that the XR Headset is in the works and might launch by the end of this year. Samsung’s President of Mobile Division, TM Roh confirmed that “A new XR platform is coming later this year”, leaving all the Samsung lovers super excited.

Samsung XR Headset Confirmed
A report by SamMobile claims that Samsung’s first XR headset might run a version of Google’s Android Operating System, which will be specifically made for upcoming headsets. The headset is tipped to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen2+ chipset.
Google’s Senior VP of Platforms and Devices, Rick Osterloh also took to the event to confirm that Google is collaborating with Samsung to bring next-generation experiences across Galaxy Products. The list will include Galaxy smartphones, as well as upcoming wearables like XR headset. “We’ve been working closely to develop in partnership with Samsung and Qualcomm”, said Osterloh.

Samsung XR Headset: Launch Timeline

Although Samsung hasn’t confirmed the launch timeline for its upcoming headset, rumors suggest that it is in the advanced stages of development and might arrive by the end of 2024. However, some reports claim that the XR Headset won’t be available to the public until March 2025. Samsung might roll out a developer version in October 2024 followed by the public version in March 2025. Meanwhile, Samsung might showcase the XR Headset during the Samsung Developer’s Conference on October 3.

Samsung XR Headset: Tipped Features

The Samsung XR Headset is expected to feature two 3500 ppi Micro OLED or OLED(s) displays from Samsung’s Display partner eMagin. It is expected to be a high-end device that will work with Galaxy smartphones. A report by ZDNet claims that Samsung has commissioned higher quality displays for headsets to compete with Apple’s 4K resolution display in MR Headset.
Samsung XR Headset is expected to be priced similarly to Apple Vision Pro as it is being developed as a stiff competition to Apple’s headset.
