Samsung Galaxy Fold launched and goes on sale in Korea starting September 6

Update: Samsung has officially declared the launch of Galaxy Fold, which will be on sale starting September 6, 2019. This would soon be followed by select countries including France, Germany, Singapore, U.K., U.S., and more, in Cosmos Black and Space Silver colors. Indian availability is yet to be revealed.

Hey, do you remember the foldable frenzy spread in the smartphone landscape a few months back? If yes, its time to dust off the memory as Samsung has officially announced the return of Galaxy Fold smartphone in September. Fold was the coveted folding phone from the South Korean brand, which saw an untimely retreat due to some display flaws. But now it seems the issue has been fixed.

Return of Samsung Galaxy Fold with spen and 8-inch display

The latest revelation from Samsung affirms that Galaxy Fold is revived and ready for a relaunch. Samsung claims to have reevaluated the Fold’s design and made “necessary improvements” as well as validated those changes through “rigorous tests”.

Samsung lists the following design and construction improvements:

  • The top protective layer of the Infinity Flex Display has been extended beyond the bezel, making it apparent that it is an integral part of the display structure and not meant to be removed.
  • Galaxy Fold features additional reinforcements to better protect the device from external particles while maintaining its signature foldable experience:
  • The top and bottom of the hinge area have been strengthened with newly added protection caps.
    • Additional metal layers underneath the Infinity Flex Display have been included to reinforce the protection of the display.
    • The space between the hinge and body of Galaxy Fold has been reduced.
  • Besides the hardware tweaks, the tech titan claims to have made few UI and UX changes, including optimizing more apps and services.

Samsung is conducting final product tests to make Galaxy Fold. We could expect the availability details as we get closer to the launch. We are also looking forward to the launch of Huawei Mate X (review) and other foldable phones.
