Samsung launched its last 3 flagship S-Series with 108MP main camera sensors. The brand is now all set to take a leap ahead with the upcoming Galaxy S23 Series. It is finally switching to a 200MP main camera sensor for the S23 Ultra model. Samsung has made quite a few 200MP sensors, one of which is already being used by Xiaomi. Now, Samsung itself is all set to use the 200MP sensor for its flagship S23 Ultra device. However, there seems to be a little catch in terms of the actual pixel resolution that can be used to click images.

The Galaxy S21 Ultra or the Galaxy S22 Ultra has 108MP sensors, the Galaxy S23 Ultra will not shoot at the maximum resolution by default. It will reportedly capture 12.5MP images using a pixel-binning process for better image quality, especially in low-light conditions. The option to shoot at the full 200MP resolution will be available, but the latest reports claim that Samsung will not offer the ability to shoot 50MP pictures, unlike the competitors.

If the reports are accurate, then you will be able to click images either at 200MP or at 12.5MP only. While 12.5MP images are low in quality, they save space on your device, whereas the 200MP image will be good in quality, but will be huge in size, thus filling up the memory of your device. Shooting in 108MP mode took 4-5 times higher space than 12.5MP so, you can imagine how big 200MP images will be.

In such a scenario, 50MP mode came as a middle ground that not only gave good quality images but also saved space on the drive. This is the reason brands like Motorola and Xiaomi give the option to shoot in 50MP mode. If Samsung is doing away with this feature in the Galaxy S23 Ultra, then it might be a problem for tech-savvy people or those whose camera usage is heavy.

For now, these are all rumors, so they should be taken with a pinch of salt. So let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope that Samsung comes up with something that is a good balance between good photography and storage space optimization for the S23 Ultra.
