It has been almost a year since Samsung Galaxy S23 launched with an all-exclusive Snapdragon SoC after years of using both Exynos and Snapdragon chipsets on the same model made for different regions. Turns out Samsung could revert to this strategy with the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S24 Series using both Exynos 2400 SoC and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 spread across region-specific models.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC will be exclusive to Galaxy S24 Ultra

Without keeping you in the loop for longer, we just had to confess that the latest leak suggests the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC is allegedly exclusive to Galaxy S24 Ultra. Unlike the Galaxy S24 and S24+ which use different chipsets (that we will get to in a bit), Galaxy S24 Ultra, being the best of the lot and with top-notch specs, will get exclusive access to Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC giving it an undisputed edge over Exynos 2400 SoC.

For the unversed, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC from Qualcomm uses TSMC’s latest node (TSMC N4P) that offers unbeatable performance. It is speculated to be available in both 3nm and 4nm although we are hoping S24 Ultra gets the former.

Now that the obvious is out of the way, we have to address the elephant in the room. Tipster Revengus hinted that Samsung will use both Exynos 2400 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 on both Galaxy S24 and S24+. However, it will follow the same strategy as before where the chipsets are region-specific. It means you can’t buy a S24 with a Snapdragon chipset in India while the Exynos variant remains unavailable in the US.

To shed light on it, Galaxy S24 and S24+ will be available in both Exynos 2400 SoC and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoCs. It will be region-specific that means Europe and South Korea are likely to get Exynos 2400 SoCs while North America gets a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 variant.

Rumor has it Exynos 2400 SoC is made on a 4nm LPP+ process on Samsung’ foundry with GPU based on AMD RDNA 3 architecture, twice the CPU performance as that of Exynos 2200 and 15 times faster AI performance. Samsung is unlikely to throttle the performance on the Snapdragon SoC to keep up with its Exynos SoC although we will have to wait to get this statement verified with Geekbench and other benchmarking figures.

The Benchmark Debate

Comparing Exynos 2200 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoCs on GeekBench 6 should make a tremendous difference. For instance, it’s 1571 and 1973 points on single-core tests while the multi-core tests stand at 3646 and 5292 points, respectively. It gives the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 an edge over Exynos 2200 SoCs by 26% and 45% in single and multi-core tests, respectively.

The upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC and Exynos 2400 SoC are likely to have the same story to tell. Exynos 2400 SoC was recently spotted using Xclipse 940 GPU based on AMD RDNA 3 with mobile ray tracing for exceptional gaming performance. This remains to be seen how performance translates once the chipset is available for the masses.
