TL; DR
  • First hands-on impressions of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 describe it as feeling surprisingly light.
  • The wider model’s crease is reportedly better than the Z Fold 8 Ultra’s in early testing.
  • Both Z Fold 8 models have cleared BIS certification, confirming planned India launches.

The first hands-on impressions of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 have surfaced, and they are making the Z Fold 8 Ultra look like the less interesting option. These come from Korean leaker Lanzuk on Naver, who handled the device directly and shared observations about the wider model ahead of Samsung’s expected July 22 Unpacked event in London.

What Do The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra First Impressions Suggest?

The standout detail is the perceived weight. Lanzuk wrote that “if you actually lift this, the weight is unbelievable,” noting that the wider, shorter form factor creates a significantly lighter feel in the hand than its actual weight would suggest. Previous leaks have placed the actual weight at around 201 grams, lighter than the Z Fold 8 Ultra’s estimated 210 grams.

On the crease, Lanzuk described the Z Fold 8’s display, noting that “the creases now feel distinctly like touching standard bar-type glass.” The Ultra, by contrast, is said to largely carry forward the display glass heritage from Samsung’s previous Diple-optimized supply chain.

Lanzuk also noted the phone could outsell the Huawei Pura X Max, currently the only wide-format foldable on sale anywhere.

The Z Fold 8 features a 7.6-inch inner display at a 3:4 landscape-oriented aspect ratio and a 5.4-inch cover screen. The Z Fold 8 Ultra continues the Z Fold 7’s tall, narrow form factor. Both models have cleared BIS certification, confirming Indian launches planned alongside the global reveal on July 22.
